~ Henshaw when spiking food for his attacks |
Mark Henshaw is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "All You Can Eat". He is a vengeful serial poisoner who targets the people he blames for the closure of his family restaurant.
He is portrayed by Mark Schroeder.
Biography[]
Little is known about Henshaw, except he cooked at the Henshaw family restaurant run by his parents, where the customers enjoyed their friendly hospitality and the restaurant providing food for the destitute on the house. Henshaw also severely burned his hand when he spilled boiling water on it. When his parents died, less patrons came into the restaurant, and struggling to keep it on its last legs, Henshaw was evicted and lost the restaurant to the Good Eatin' Buffet. Swearing revenge, Henshaw set out to kill the entrepreneurs who bought the restaurant, believing that they stole his family's legacy, as well as members of the community he believed had forsaken his family. Henshaw concocted lethal brews of anticoagulant rat poison, then prepared for mass attacks with isolated murders.
He discreetly poisoned Serena Logan, who approved the buffet's loan, before she collapsed on her doorstep. Clayton Osbourne died the same way when arriving home, as he wrote a viral low-rate review of the Henshaw restaurant online. The CDC feared bioterrorism and dispatched the BAU, but by then, Henshaw already tainted the buffet of the business league's meeting, swiftly killing ten attendees. Once the BAU realized who he was from his profile and history, he went directly to the Good Eatin' Buffet to sabotage the food supply. He sprayed the rodenticide on the buffet itself, lying it would "keep the food fresh". No one ate it by the time the agents arrived and warned everyone. Henshaw tried to run out the back through the kitchen, but he was incapacitated and arrested, later being incarcerated for life for his crimes.
Trivia[]
- Henshaw is inspired by multiple real-life poisoners and murderers:
- Daniel Bondeson, an American murder and poisoner and a congregant of the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church who poisoned a banquet at a service with arsenic, killing one parishioner. Bondeson later wrote a note claiming responsibility and committed suicide.
- Masumi Hayashi, a Japanese serial killer and mass murderer who, using arsenic from her husband's extermination work, killer people for life insurance fraud, then committed a mass murder poisoning to attack the communities she hated for ostracizing her family.
