Marquis Zaki (ザキ侯爵) is a minor antagonist of the anime series Voltes V. He's Emperor Zu Zambajil's chief inspector, sent by the latter alongside Zuhl to pretend aiding Prince Heinel in the invasion on Earth, but in truth to kill the prince if necessary in order to remove a possible threat to Emperor Zambajil's rule.
He was voiced by Tamio Ōki, who would go on to voice Sakamori Miwa in Tōshō Daimos.
In Voltes V: Legacy, Marquis Zaki was adapted into a female character called Countess Zaki. The female version of the character will be played by Vaness del Moral.
Personality[]
Marquis Zaki is a person full of deception, always seeking to kill Prince Heinel if he has the chance. To this end, he conspires with Belgan, and later Zuhl, to have the prince killed. He also likes delivering bad news to Emperor Zambajil, leading to many of the Emperor's executions being ordered. He is also extremely over confident, thinking that he can send Heinel to the latter's death via conspiracy, only for the prince to prove him wrong and kill him.
Biography[]
At the start of the series, Emperor ZZambajil sends his nephew, Prince Heinel, to lead an invasion against Earth with legions of fleets. In truth, he wants to send Heinel away to remove a perceived threat for his rule. To ensure Heinel's death, he sends Marquise Zaki pretend aiding Heinel, but in truth to kill him if necessary.
Being the chief inspector for the Emperor, Zaki constantly delivers bad news to the latter from his spying, leading to Emperor Zambajil ordering several excutions. The thought of telling Zambajil of Heinel's death fills him with glee.
Zaki meeting Heinel
He is first introduced to Heinel in episode 8 when he relentlessly insults and berates him for his failures in the war, going as for as to accuse him of being a traitor just like his father. He tells Heinel of all the insults Zambajil calls him behind his back, and then pours a cup of wine and throws it in Heinel's face.
The next day, Zaki conspires with Dr. Zuhl to send Heinel to his death by having the prince piloting a leopard beast fighter named Galgo while they leak information about its weak points (specifically, the armour on it's sides) to Big Falcon. Zaki attaches the blueprints to Galgo to the corpse of a hornless Boazanian prisoner, and places him in a boat destined to Big Falcon Island on autopilot. Zaki and Zuhl's plan is to make it look like the prisoner died trying to bring the information on Galgo. However, Katherine Rii overhears the plot and reports it to Heinel, so he orders Zuhl to reinforce the armour. As Zuhl is being watched by Heinel's guards, he is forced to comply, thus sabotaging the attempt.
During the battle, Heinel initially has the upper hand, overturning Voltes V at several points and resisting the barrage of projectiles aimed at him. Galgo absorbs all of Voltes V's remaining power, rendering them unable to move. As Heinel is on the verge of victory, Kenichi contacts Professor Hamaguchi, who tells him to allow Galgo to absorb the energy as according to the blueprints, an overload of energy would cause Galgo to explode. Kenichi obeys, and when Galgo reaches its limit, it refuses to obey Heinel's attempts to control it. Voltes V than uses Zaki's ship as a shield, causing Galgo to accidentally bites it. Due to being overloaded with power, Galgo's bite causes the ship to explode with Zaki inside.
