Terrorists have taken possession of nuclear missiles on a cargo ship off the coast. If these babies go off, it’ll be World War III.
~ Marsh asking Barney and the Expendables to get the missiles.
I guess you figured out that this device right here is the only thing preventing World War III, a conflict that, while devastating for many, it'll be insanely, insanely, INSANELY profitable for somebody, and that somebody is gonna be me! And the Expendables will take ALL THE BLAME! So, enjoy the show!
~ Marsh, revealing himself to be Ocelot and stating his true intentions to start World War III.
So very nice. Look what Santa brought me.
~ Agent Marsh/Ocelot's last words when he was about to shoot Lee Christmas but he was brutally killed by Barney Ross in a helicopter.

Agent Marsh, better known as Ocelot, is the main antagonist of the 2023 action film Expend4bles, the fourth installment of the Expendables franchise.

He is a corrupt government official who initially appeared to be the Expendables' new superior on behalf of the CIA - having assigned Barney Ross and his team to retrieve stolen missiles from a terroristic mercenary named Suarto Rahmat. However, it is soon revealed that Marsh is actually a double agent who has in fact been Rahmat's employer all along; Rahmat's terrorism was secretly part of Marsh's scheme to start World War III between the United States and Russia in order to profit from the impending conflict between them.

He was portrayed by Andy Garcia, who also played Terry Benedict in Ocean's Eleven, El Toro in True Memoirs of an International Assassin, Hetz in Elena of Avalor, Miles Edwards in Max Steel, Vincent Corleone in The Godfather: Part III and Detective Brolin in Let's Be Cops.

In the Japanese dub of the movie, He is voiced by Naoya Uchida, who voiced Madara Uchiha in Naruto: Shippuden.

Personality[]

Marsh, in person, was a brash individual who was doing what was best to have the Expendables accomplish their mission. In actuality, however, his true nature is that of a self-serving treacherous manipulator who plotted to kickstart a conflicting war for the sake of profitable income. His dastardly ambitions were so extent to the point that he came in contact to any notorious figure, such as Rahmat, when their services best fit his own benefit.

Intelligent-wise, he was able to trick and set up the Expendables to be captured easily and play a victim behind them without the latter even knowing. The same goes for managing to cover up his secondary identity for years.

As such, he proved to be a callous and cold-blooded man who was not above killing his own minions when they questioned him. In spite of that, he is nonetheless a coward who tried to use dirty tactics to his advantage, such as pulling out a gun on Lee Christmas when he "demanded a fair fight".

Biography[]

Marsh originally acts as a superior to the mercenary team known as the Expendables and successfully manages to hide his villainous alter-ego persona, known only as “Ocelot”. Twenty-five years before the events of the film, when Barney and his team were on a covert mission, Marsh exposed Barney and his team and eight of Barney's team got killed. He manages to have Lee Christmas excommunicated from the team after they come into conflict with Marsh’s own terrorist colleague Suarto Rahmat, and the Expendables’ leader Barney Ross fakes his death in a plane crash in order to try and bring “Ocelot” out of hiding (whom Barney had been hunting for years). When the Expendables reach Marsh’s tanker ship where Rahmat and Marsh are attempting to ignite World War III by detonating a nuclear bomb, the team manages to eliminate most of Marsh’s henchmen while Christmas battles and kills Rahmat, though not before Rahmat reveals that Ocelot holds the kill switch needed to stop the bomb from detonating, rather than himself.

Marsh’s true identity as Ocelot is then revealed when he personally kills his former partner Phen Lyong Bai and the only surviving witness who know who Ocelot really is. After a helicopter shows up kills the rest of Marsh’s remaining men, Christmas is challenged by Marsh to a fistfight but immediately cheats by attempting to pull a gun on him. At that moment, Barney appears in a helicopter and opens fire on Marsh with a mounted mini-gun, brutally killing him and leaving Christmas shocked. After killing Marsh and sinking his boat, Barney admits reveals to Christmas that he had to fake his own death to draw Marsh out of hiding to prove he was Ocelot and it was personal. With Marsh dead, Barney had avenged his fallen comrades and set out to celebrated his return.

Trivia[]

  • He is the second main villain in the series to not fight the protagonist hand-to-hand, after James Munroe from the first film. While he initially challenges Christmas to a fair fight in the climax, he cheats by pulling out a gun, only to be blown away by Barney Ross in his helicopter.
  • Unlike, Chruch or Drummer who are contacts and help the Expendables, Marsh is the opposite of both of them.
  • Marsh is the second traitor to Barney Ross after Conrad Stonebanks, Marsh and Barney Ross were partners at that time. However, Marsh was a Terrorist benefactor codenamed as Ocelot, did a little groundwork behind the CIA's backs. Many years ago, Marsh was responsible that turned Barney Ross and his crew over to terrorists to not reveal his second identity who Ocelot. When the CIA gave Barney the task to figure out who Ocelot was, Barney and his team were ambushed terrorists and it resulted in 8 members team Barney Ross getting killed, Barney Ross himself remained alive and escaped as a result, Marsh known as Ocelot was not revealed.
