Don't you want to be happy?
~ The Toymaker's most famous quote.
First, the dog wouldn't listen to me, then my WIFE! I think the only thing I've learned through all of this is that I'm not going to let anyone let me down. INCLUDING YOU!
~ Martin's villainous breakdown before shooting and killing his brother, Arthur.
You have 30 seconds to get the girls and get as far as you can. Start running.
~ Martin ordering Gloria to take Macy and Ava and run away before he kills them.

Martin Greywhinder, also known as The Toymaker or The Jester, is the main antagonist of the Harmony & Horror analog horror series. He appears as the main antagonist of Season 1 and it set to return in Season 2 in an unknown role.

He is a scorned inventor and the co-founder of M&A HarmonyToys and M&A HarmonyPlay alongside his brother, Arthur Greywhinder. As well as being an inventor, Martin was a perfectionist who grew obsessed with the idea of making "the perfect toy", and, wishing to "fix" his family, chose to make a deal with a demon to create the most life-like toys imaginable.

Martin gradually began to kill off members of his family and experiment with them, using satanic rituals to resurrect them and put their mummified bodies into his toys, eventually leading to him becoming a serial killer and murdering several children to add to his collection.

He is portrayed and voiced by Battington himself.

Biography[]

Martin Greywhinder was born somewhere in 1954. Gloria (Last Names Unknown before Gloria change Her Last Name to Greywhinder) mentioned during their argument that she's not his father, indicating that Martin had bad a relationship with him.

At some point he married a woman named Gloria.

Once Gloria found him sulking in his room, Martin told her that he visited the doctor's office and found out that he's sterile. When Gloria advised to adopt a child, he snaps at her, but then apologize. In the same day, he got a puppy that was later named Banzo.

He eventually got what he wanted and had three children, Thomas, Macy, and Ava. Martin was firstly happy, but later believed that they were born by Gloria cheating on him with his older brother, Arthur. Due to this, Martin started becoming controlling and abusive towards them, such as when he beat Thomas for asking for a new toy, or when he put cameras in Macy's room to spy for her.

During the late 70's to early-80's, Martin co-founded the toy manufacturing company "M&A HarmonyToys" alongside his brother, Arthur. Although Martin was a skilled inventor who dedicated all his time to making the most advanced toys possible, media coverage of the company resulted in major backlash targeted towards Martin, who was ridiculed for advertising his toys as "the most life-like toys to have ever been made", when in reality they were seen as more "dead" than alive by the press. Martin was profoundly disappointed in himself and was desperate to create the perfect toy, but was constantly bickering with his family who kept interrupting him during his work. In 1982, in an act of pure madness and desperation, Martin somehow made contact with the Demon (Who might be the Devil himself) and made a deal to make his toys as life-like as possible, but to do it would require him to commit acts of murder that would bind his victims' souls and bodies to the toys he made. If he failed in his mission, the Demon would come to fulfill their part of the bargain and take Martin's soul.

The Demon started by putting out a cursed airing of the M&A HarmonyPlay TV show, featuring a character known as the Toymaker, who is a parallel to Martin. The Toymaker had two children named Marcus and Andrew collect pieces of equipment to help him create the 'perfect toy'. After gathering all the necessary pieces (including their dog, Banzo), he asked the children to sing a song to help the toy function, but the episode displayed a warning, telling viewers to block their ears from the noise. Unfortunately for Martin, he ended up in major controversy after the cursed airing resulted in the deaths of several children.

Aside from the deaths caused by the first half of the episode, the rest of the episode displayed a parallel to what the Demon was going to do to Martin. The Toymaker presented his toy to the children, which was revealed to be Stitchbuddy. Realizing that he's once again failed, the Toymaker lashes out at the children and prepares to kill them before he notices the Devil, who has come to collect his debt. The Toymaker backs away in fear before he is attacked and killed. The tape was likely the redacted part that caused the deaths of the people who watched it.

Later one, he killed his intern, Amy Willson, by pulling out her spine. It is implied that he later turned her into a Henry doll. After her death, he was interrogated by detective Harold Stewart for a third time (Before he interrogated Martin about him abusing Thomas and his role in the aforementioned incident).

Later, he seems to kidnap and kill other people to fulfill his end of the deal. It is known that Martin killed 19 people and turned 8 of them into Henry dolls and 11 into Sofia dolls.

It is also known that he once kidnapped few children to make Magical Sofia advertising. One girl move away from the script and asked him to fix her legs (Implying that Martin broke her and other children's legs). In response, Martin brutally killed her. he later presumably killed other children and turned them into dolls.

In 1985, Martin killed Banzo by hitting him with his car. He then turned him into Stitchbuddy.

In the coming year, Arthur found out his role in the incident with Harmony Boardcast, after they demoted him to the mascot performer. It made Martin completely lose his sanity and choose to make his family "perfect".

Firstly, he met with Arthur, after revealing his true nature to him, and shot him to death. After he did the deed, he turned Arthur into the Ice Cream Man.

Later, Martin hit Thomas for asking him about a new toy and sent him to sleep while promising to show him a "surprise". Martin wakes him up and shows his "surprise" — Ice Cream Man, and forced him to kill Thomas. Martin then turned him into a Henry doll.

Later, Gloria asked him where Thomas was. Martin then revealed his suspicions to her potentially cheating on him. He proceeded to threaten her with a gun and order her to take their kids and run before he kills them. Gloria fails, and he sends Stitchbuddy to kill Macy and turn her into a Sofia doll. When Gloria tried to protect her, Martin shot her to death.

Finally, he tried to use Stitchbuddy to kill Ava. In the non-canon ending, Martin managed to do it, and laughed saying to Stitchbuddy that's what he wanted. In the canon ending, Martin failed, and was forced to kill her personally by shooting her. He later turned her into a doll.

Sometime after that, he watched a few tapes, which were coincidentally haunted by Gloria's ghost. She asks Martin to redeem himself, but he breaks the TV.

Eventually, the demon was disappointed in his results and had the Ice Cream Man seemingly kill him. However, aforementioned advertising seems to happen after that (It was advertising of Magical Sofia, which is a better version of Sofia), so, it possible that demon gave Martin last chance.

Personality[]

Martin is a very aggressive, arrogant, unstable, and opportunistic man who dedicates most of his time to working on his inventions and experimenting with reanimating his victims as possessed human-puppet hybrids. In truth, Martin only wanted success and respect, and would do anything he could to achieve success, even if it including stooping down to performing satanic rituals and making a pact with the Demon.

Although he presented himself as a loving father, husband, and brother to his family, he secretly loathed them for getting in the way of his work and decided to murder them for his experiments instead of simply choosing someone else. Martin may have loved his family once, but as of now he has lost all empathy for those around him and doesn't seem to regret any of the murders he committed. When Gloria tries to contact Martin through the tapes to reason with him, he smashes the TV, proving that he's too far gone at this point and is completely under the Demon's control.

Much like the way he presents himself as friendly to his family, his TV counterpart, the Toymaker, parallels this relationship, instead with two children. The Toymaker is somewhat tragic, not being able to make his toys life-like enough and having been ridiculed by others. He's also skilled at getting what he wants, as he guilt trips the children that not handing over their dog or not collecting the ingredients for the toy will leave them without happiness.

Despite his calm and collected nature, Martin is prone to fits of blind rage. This is first shown when he kills both Arthur and Macy, first by shouting at Arthur and then shooting him and yelling for Macy to come out when he's hunting her. The Toymaker also parallels this, snapping at Marcus and Andrew and claiming that they doubted him, lamenting that he's fooled so many people and tried his best to make the perfect toy, only to repeatedly fail.

It seems that the only thing that truly scares Martin is the Devil and the thought of death. The Toymaker shows immense cowardice when confronted by the Devil and repeatedly states that he just needs more time. With Martin, he only shows fear towards the Ice Cream Man when he opens his faceplates, indicating that he's through with Martin and about to kill him.

THE_MIRACLE_CHILD, however, shows him with a somewhat more sympathetic side. It implies that he became who he is now due to having a bad relationship with his father, and believing that his wife cheated on him with his brother.

Quotes[]

Season 1[]

Martin: Look at that. What do you think? New mascot will get the kids' attention, huh? (laughter)
Arthur: Martin that's... I... I know what you did with the dog.
Martin: What?
Arthur: The dog, Martin.
Martin: Uh... I don't understand..
Arthur: Don't play games with me, Martin! I told you to knock it off but you did it anyway!
Martin: Arthur, I... I think there's some sort of misunderstanding.
Arthur: Don't act stupid, Martin. The thing nearly killed me last night!
Martin: Arthur, I told you, it got hit by a car.
Arthur: And who's car did it hit? Who's car has a stain on its bumper?
Martin: Arthur, please. The dog means nothing. Besides, I won't have to deal with it pissing on my shoe. Or telling it to stop barking, or keeping it away from my work.
Arthur: So that's why you did it? You think that killing it and turning it into one of those monstrosities that I said would be a bad idea is the way to fix it!?
Martin: Arthur, it listens to me now. It does what I say, it proves the obedience I've been working on!
Arthur: Oh, Martin. I wish you hadn't gone down this path. But it's going to be okay. Your work, along with you has only proven you are dangerous. But the family, nor I, will have to be in the way of it.
Martin: What are you saying?
Arthur: I'm taking the kids.
Martin: What?
Arthur: Gloria and I will watch over them until you sort yourself out. I've already spoken with her. Her, the kids and I... We're leaving tomorrow morning.
Martin: I know. I knew what was going on between you two.
Arthur: Martin, it's not like that.
Martin: No, it's fine. I fixed our little problem.
Arthur: What do you mean you... No.. Oh, Martin... What have you done!?
Martin: First the dog wouldn't listen to me, then my WIFE! I think the only thing I've learned through all of this is that I'm not going to let anyone let me down. INCLUDING YOU!
~ Martin talks with Arthur before killing him
Macy. Come out, come out, wherever you are. Daddy's got a special surprise for ya. MACY! I ORDER YOU TO COME HERE RIGHT NOW!
~ Martin trying to lure Macy Greywhinder out so he can kill her.
Alright, let's see here. Banzo. Stand. (Banzo stands up accordingly) That's a boy, Banzo. (camera starts to glitch out) God damn prick, I oughta hang him by his jaw. Let's see who's the fraud now. Banzo. Speak. (Banzo opens his jaw and emits dog noises) Good boy. Now I just want you- (the doorbell rings and Martin sighs) Who could that be? Oh, great. Banzo. I want you to stay right there 'til I get back. Alright? Good boy.
~ Martin testing the functions and capabilities of Banzo, who has now been made into the Stitchbuddy toy.
Martin: Alright, all comfy? Good. Now, your mom and I are gonna be in a business meeting, so Mommy might not be back for quite awhile. So I'll see you in the morning, okay?
Macy: Well, Daddy, can you sing me a lullaby?
Martin: Huh? No. No time for a lullaby.
Macy: If Mommy and Daddy aren't gonna be here, then I can't sleep.
Martin: Look, Daddy is pretty busy, so just try to go to sleep.
Macy: But I want a lullaby before I sleep.
Martin: No, Macy.
Enough.
Macy: Please, I don't wanna be scared. Please.
Martin: How about I make you a toy that can sing forever. Would that make you feel better?
~ Martin tucking Macy into bed and promising to give her a toy that'll sing forever, foreshadowing her fate as Sofia.

Well, you see, children... I can make toys that blink. I can make toys that walk. I can make them eat. And I can make them talk. I can make posters that read they are fun, fun, fun! But these toys just aren't fun for anyone...
~ The Toymaker admitting that he's able to make a lot of different variations of toys, but that they aren't fun enough anymore.
Well, you see, children, the secret to many good selling toys is to make them life-like! You see, my toys can blink, but they can't see. My toys can walk, but they can't dance. My toys can eat, but they can't taste. My toys can talk, but they can't sing. I've been thrown away like a broken toy... And believe me, children, I've tried to make the perfect toy. but I can't do it all on my own. Oh boo-hoo...
~ The Toymaker telling Marcus and Andrew that his toys don't sell well because they aren't life-like enough.

~ The Toymaker asking if Marcus and Andrew want the toy to be happy.
Yes, wonderful! Now come back later for the final step.
~ The Toymaker telling Marcus and Andrew to come back later
You're just in time, children!
~ The Toymaker welcoming Marcus and Andrew back.
Never mind that, children! Now, come closer. The last thing I need from you two is your voice!
~ The Toymaker brushing off where Banzo has gone.
I need you both to sing a song! The toy's just on the other side of this door. Now, repeat after me.
~ The Toymaker tasking Marcus and Andrew with singing a song before the tape gets cut off by an emergency warning.
Splendid, children! Do you have any idea what you've done for me, my children? You have done me well! Now, come along, come along, it's just behind this door... I really do hope you enjoy it.
~ The Toymaker commending Marcus and Andrew for their singing before preparing them to see the toy.
Harold: Well, hello again, Mr. Greywhinder.
Martin: Mr. Stewart.
Harold: Do you know why you are here today?
Martin: Does it have anything to do with me harming my family?
Harold: Your son? No. Although, I hope we don't have to have a talk with you again.
Martin: Oh.
Harold: No. Martin, you're a great businessman, and I've been told that you're a great brother. I don't hate you, Martin. My son loves your toys. He loves your show. Which is why we are here.
Martin: The Harmony Broadcast Incident?
Harold: No. Now, you've told us in the past that your show was hacked, and it had nothing to do with you.
Martin: Correct.
Harold: Well, even though we are still on that case--
Martin: That's not what this is about. If this isn't about the incident, what is it about?
Harold: This is about your intern, Mr. Greywhinder. The whereabouts of Amy Wilson.
~ Martin is interrogated by detective Stewart about disappearance of Amy Willson
You did it. You listened to me. You obeyed me. You're loyal. You're faithful. You're just what he said you'd be. You're a monster. And the best part is... I didn't do it. You did. It's all your fault.
~ Martin if Banzo kills Ava (not canon).
You disobeyed me. I knew you were broken. There's something I'm missing. I was so close. But it's not my fault. But it's not my fault. But it's not my fault. But it's not my fault. But it's not my fault. But it's not my fault. But it's not my fault. But it's not my fault.
~ Martin if Banzo doesn't kill Ava (canon).
Incredible, isn't it?
~ The Toymaker showing off Banzo to Marcus and Andrew.
No matter how much I perfect the equation, there always seems to be something wrong...
~ The Toymaker lamenting his failure.
So did I. What did you two do?...
~ The Toymaker creepily asking Marcus and Andrew what they did.
Toymaker: YOU!
Andrew: Me?
Toymaker: This is all YOUR fault! You could've had the PERFECT toy! But you... You had to doubt me...
~ The Toymaker snaps at Andrew before grabbing him.
EHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, my dear boy... You are going to PAY for what you've done! I am not going to let ANYONE let me down. INCLUDING YO-- (the Toymaker glances behind Andrew and sees the silhouette of the Devil standing) You... (The Devil starts approaching, causing the Toymaker to back away in fear) NO. Ah-ahahahahaHAHAHAHA! NO! PLEASE! I JUST NEED MORE TIME. YOU JUST NEED TO GIVE ME MORE TIME!! PLEASE! THIS ISN'T AT ALL WHAT I HAD PLANNED! PLEASE, NO, NO, YOU JUST NEED TO GIVE ME MORE TIME! NO, NO, NO! N-NOOOOOOOOOOO!-
~ The Toymaker promising to make Andrew pay before noticing the Devil watching them. Panicking, he backs away, all whilst proclaiming and begging the Devil to give him more time.
No... What are you doing? Get back in your room like I told you to! What do you want? Didn't you hear me? What's the matter with you? You got cotton in your ears? No. No. No. NO!
~ Martin's last words as he is confronted by the Ice Cream Man, who attacks and presumably kills him.

Season 2[]

Macy: When am I get a toy?
Martin: Soon, Macy, soon.
Macy: Why are you putting the camera in my room?
Martin: Um... Well, dad's not gonna... Dad's not gonna be here for... A couple nights. So while... While I'm away... Mom will sing you, guys, lullabies and tell your bedtime stories.
Macy: Your not gonna be here?
Martin: No, dad's got a lot of work to do. So... While I'm gone... I use this cameras to... Keep track of you, guys. Make sure you, guys, are safe... During the night, while you sleep. So, dad's always going to be here. So, that way, there's no monster in the closet.
Macy: Can I come with you?
Martin: No! No, you can't come with me to work.
Macy: I'm gonna miss you.
Martin: I'm gonna miss you too, sweetheart. Come on, let's get ready for bed.
~ Martin puting camera in Macy's room.
Gloria: Honey! Honey? (Goes in Martin's room) Oh, hi, darling! Charlotte was telling me about this pup in her crawl space, and she's taking care for it now, but she was wondering if you'd be interested in adopting it?.. Martin?.. (Martin is sighing) Are you alright?
Martin: Um I um I... I made the trip for the doctor today.
Gloria: Oh dear, I'm so sorry, I forgot that it was today. Well, how did it go? Did he... Did he say yes?
Martin: No. (Sighing) He said no...
Gloria: Oh. I'm sorry, honey. I know how much this means to you. (Sighing) Maybe, we can still adopt one? Yeah? I'll make an appointment first thing tomorrow morning, and-
Martin: No, no, NO! I can't go though that! I can't go through with taking care of somebody else's kid! I can't, it's... Not my blood, then I don't want it.
Gloria: Oh, Martin, there's got to be another way! Please, consider the other options!
Martin: I've already gave them some thought, Gloria, and my one chance to having a child with my own fresh and blood was thrown down a drain!
Gloria: Don't ever raise your voice at me, I am your wife. I am not your father.
Martin: ... I'm sorry. I... I really am. I... I don't know what came over me. I just need, I think, need more time to think. I... I can't decide right now. I'll be in basement, working, if you need me. Again, I'm sorry, and we'll, we'll talk things over in the morning. Okay?.. Good night.
~ Martin talks with Gloria about his unability to have children.
Hello, Thomas. It's time for your surprise.
~ Martin wakes Thomas to show him Ice Cream Man.
Gloria: Hi, honey.
Martin: Hey, hon. How was your council meeting?
Gloria: Uh, the thing is it's, um, there was no council meeting.
Martin: Oh, well... Wait. What do you mean?
Gloria: Okay, Martin, do you remember how these past few weeks I told you I wasn't feeling well? How you said I should see the doctor? And I'm said I'll be fine, yes.
Martin:Is there something wrong?
Gloria: No, no. Well, you see, there was no meeting, because I made an appointment with the doctor, and, well, I...
Martin: Oh, come on. I... I don't understand. This is... This isn't... Is this what I think it is? Is, um, this real? Are you... Are you... Are... Are we... Am I going to be, um...
Gloria: (Giggling) A father! You're going to be a father!
Martin: No, this... This can't be! I mean, this is fantastic, but this just can't be true! The doctor said I'll never be able to have a child!
Gloria: They said your chance where a little to none, and yet, we'll have a child of your own blood!
Martin: Well, this is a miracle! (Gloria laughing) It's a miracle! It's fantastic! I can't believe it, our own baby! Our boy... Oh, I mean, do we know? What did they say? Did they say that a little will be-
Gloria: Yes, yes, a beautiful baby, boy.
Martin: Oh, boy. Oh, it's a boy, oh, it's a boy!
Gloria: (Giggling) Oh, I just knew you'll be so happy to hear.
Martin: Oh, just wait until Arthur hear about it! He's gonna lose his mind, when he find out that his gonna be an uncle!
Gloria: Oh, I sure he's gonna be a proud uncle, and you'll be a wonderful father. Just imagine: you, me and your miracle child...
Martin: Yeah, our miracle child...
~ Martin finds out that Gloria is pregnant for the first time.
(Martin cheerfully singing)
Gloria: Martin... Martin... There you are. You told me you'll took Tom to school, and here I am, getting the call from the school saying that Thomas wasn't there today!.. Are you listening to me?
Martin: You know, Arthur demoted me, that boardcast really sent him over the edge, but, because I'm his brother, he gave me the job of mascot performer.
Gloria: Honey, I'm understand how much that upsets you, but are you listening to me? What does it have to do with Thomas? Where is he? Where is our son?!
Martin: Our son? (Laughing)
Gloria: I has gotten into you... You're not like you, you scaring me!
Martin: How long did you think it would take for me to find out? Or did you think I wouldn't find out at all?
Gloria: Martin, I don't know what are you talking about!
Martin: Don't you lie to me?! Don't you lie to them too?! Does Thomas know, does Macy know?!
Gloria: Martin, stop it! I already told that we're taking away from here because you're getting out of control!
Martin: And where are you gonna go? He's already gone! He left without you, he left without keys...
Gloria: Oh no. What did you do to him? Where's my son? Where's my boy? (Crying) Where is, Martin?
Martin: (Getting the gun ready) You have 30 seconds to get the girls and get as far as you can. Start running. One...
Gloria: Oh God...
Gloria: Oh God, please, no, STOP!
Martin: Two, (Gloria crying and goes away), three...
~ Martin talking with Gloria before starts killing rest of his family.

Trivia[]

  • Although Martin is supposedly killed by the Ice Cream Man, it's mentioned in L0cal_13 that the police are still looking for him for the various murders he committed and despite mentioning the numerous bodies in the Greywhinder residence, there was no mention of Martin's body, indicating that he survived the attack and is still on the move, possibly running from authorities.
    • He might be "Arthur" that appeared in THE_MIRACLE_CHILD.
  • Although Toymaker is his cartoon counterpart, it seems that Marcus is also based on him (Their names starts with same letters, like with Andrew and Arthur, and Andrew is obviously based on Arthur). He might shows Martin's good side, that he leaved behind.
