Martin Harwell, also known as The Vanity Killer, is the main antagonist of the season one episode "Ghosts" in the crime action TV show S.W.A.T.. He terrorized southern California years ago before evading the police and then returning to commit his crimes. He is a sadist who enjoys tormenting his victims. He continued his crimes until he was caught by the LAPD and arrested.

Biography

In the past, Harwell was cornered by the LAPD after they were able to track him to a warehouse where he had a man and a woman tied up and tortured. As Officer Luca was able to rescue the woman from Harwell, Harwell escapes from the police and uses an explosive to blow up the building killing the male victim. Since that incident, the Vanity Killer was declared deceased. However, Harwell moved out of southern California and stayed hidden from authorities.

Harwell returns to southern California where Officer Luca saw him outside in a crowded setting. Luca tried to go after him but he could not catch up to him. Harwell was able to capture a male victim and continues his crimes. As Luca is able to get the SWAT team to look back into the cold case of the Vanity Killer, the SWAT team is able to find the location of Harwell along with the male and female victim. SWAT team manages to infiltrate his hideout and tries to ambush him by cutting off his security cameras. However, he realized something was odd when his alarm went off. Harwell ran away after finding out that he has been discovered by the police leaving his victims alone. When Luca fell through a trapdoor, Harwell ambushes him and attempts to kill him. However, Luca is able to overpower him and hold him at gun point. Luca is very angry at Harwell and is on the brink of shooting him while asking him for a motive for his crimes. Harwell remains silent. Hondo tells Luca to calm down. Harwell is detained and arrested by the LAPD.
