Martin James Kirby is the main antagonist in Angel Has Fallen. He was the Vice President of the United States who conspired to have President Allan Trumbull's assassination and usurp the President's decisions on private military companies.

He was portrayed by Tim Blake Nelson, who also played The Leader in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Jonathan Jacobo in Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed.

Personality

Upon his first appearance, Kirby was just shown to be a shy fellow, being a man of few words. He is very timid when seeing how complicated his job is. But in spite of this, Kirby shows his loyalty to the country and is determined to keep it under control after the President's coma following an attempted murder.

However, it turns out to be all a cover-up to hide his true nature: that of a treacherous and tyrannical mastermind who was actually planning to kill the President in order to officially take over the role in the White House so he can go to war against Russia.

Biography

After the attack, Vice President Martin Kirby is sworn in as Acting President due to Trumbull being in a coma.

After Trumbull comes out of his coma, Kirby is revealed to be involved with Jennings. He plans to retaliate by attacking Russia due to the 'assassination attempt' on the President

After Banning was exonerated, Trumbull arrests Vice President Kirby for treason thanks to the evidence uncovered by late FBI Agent Helen Thompson.

Kirby is thought be sentenced to prison for life or executed for his crimes, betrayal and conspiracy.

Trivia

• Kirby is so far the only antagonist in the Has Fallen series to be arrested and not die. However, it can be implied that he was sentenced for life or executed for his actions.
• Before the film's release, Wade Jennings was thought to be the main villain because he started the terrorist attack and did all the work. However, Martin Kirby was revealed to be the true mastermind behind the events.
• He is similar to James Bond main villain Ernst Blofeld who had no contact with James Bond.  He had no contact with Mike Banning.
