First, you bust him up real good, public and messy. Everybody should know what you get when you kick in my door.

~ Martin Lamanski's last words.

Martin "The Hammer" Lamanski is an antagonist in the 1986 film, Raw Deal. He is a Jewish-Italian mob boss who used to work for Luigi Patrovita, now working in to muscle in on the latter's territory in Chicago.

He was portrayed by the late Steven Hill.

Biography[]

Prior to the events of the movie, Martin "The Hammer" Lamanski once worked for mob boss, Luigi Patrovita as his protege in Chicago. Now, Lamanski works as a rival mob boss of his own trying to muscle in on Patrovita's territory. After a failed meeting to ensure possible partnership between both families at the docks under threat of death, Lamanski signals his men to send out a hit squad hidden inside a bus to assassinate Patrovita, but they fail to kill him and only manage to kill one of his best enforcers, Tony, thus, forcing Patrovita's right-hand man, Paulo Rocca to find a good replacement for him.

During the next few days, Lamanski begins to suffer harassment from a felon from Miami named Joseph P. Brenner looking forward to joining Patrovita by wasting one of the former's rigged joints and robbing his girlfriend in order to get on the latter's good side, unaware that he is actually a former FBI agent named Mark Kaminski who has been asked by FBI Chief Harry Shannon to infiltrate and tear up Patrovita's organization in order to avenge the death of his FBI agent son, Blair, thanks to a leak within the FBI department.

After Brenner and Max Keller coax a queer club owner named Metzger into stop paying Lamanski, Lamanski sends his goons out to finish Brenner off while playing golf to no avail, which eventually proves futile.

A few days later, after attending a synagogue, Lamanski and his men find themselves pursued and chased by Brenner, Keller, and an extra killer in a car throughout the city as a diversion while Patrovita and his men are busy recovering $100 million of heroin and cash at a police station seized by the feds from one of Patrovita's hideouts a few days ago.

After most of his men have been killed in a shootout during the chase, Lamanski is finally killed in an explosion when his car accidentally hits a tanker.
