Martin "Marty" Santorelli is a supporting character in the 2010 crime game Mafia II.
He is voiced by Jason Spisak, who also voiced Vulpes Inculta in Fallout: New Vegas.
Biography[]
In his childhood, Marty Santorelli hung around with older kids Vito Scaletta and Joe Barbaro, the latter two got involved in a life of crime. Marty grew up aspiring to be a gangster, which was fuelled by him watching gangster movies at the cinema. Marty developed a close friendship with Joe Barbaro, with the pair of them sharing a sibling type relationship. In 1950, Joe returned to Empire Bay after a five year exile and became involved with the Falcone Crime Family. Marty began illegally working as a taxi driver at around the age of 16, and accidentally hit a pedestrian who jumped in front of his car. Joe later disposed of the evidence by putting the car and the body into a car crusher belonging to Mike Bruski. Later on, Marty was chased down by a gang and fatally shot at the subway. Joe came to Marty's rescue and wiped out the goons, and took Marty to mob doctor El Greco to be healed. As a way of saying thanks, Marty gave Joe access to his apartment.
In 1951, Marty came along with Joe when Joe went to pick up his friend Vito in order to take him out on a job. Marty departed before Vito exited his apartment and set off with Joe. Vito didn't remember Marty due to it being many years since their last interaction. During their outing selling stolen cigarettes Joe informed Vito about Marty's desire to be a gangster, and that he has been helping Joe out on odd jobs. Vito didn't have much confidence about Marty and believed he would end up in a lot of trouble some day. Later that day when a group of greasers torched the truck, Joe and Vito's superior Eddie Scarpa ordered the pair to get revenge on the greasers and get back the money he is owed for the botched job. Steve Coyne and his goons meet up with Vito and Joe near the greasers hangout, and Marty is shown to be among them. Joe is concerned if Marty should be involved in such a job, but Steve assures him it will be fine and Marty has to learn. Marty is delighted at being involved in the revenge plot, and happily helps the other mobsters mow down and wipe out the greasers at their hideout at the foundry.
A couple of months later, Vito and Joe are hired by their boss Carlo Falcone to assassinate Alberto Clemente at the Empire Arms Hotel. Joe brings along Marty to act as their getaway driver, although Joe and Vito refuse to disclose the real reasons behind the job. Joe and Vito blow up a boardroom where Alberto is having his meeting, although fail to kill him due to Alberto taking a bathroom break at that moment. Alberto and his remaining goons make their getaway, and shoot and kill Marty in the parking lot before escaping in a car. Vito and Joe chase down Alberto and manage to kill him, completing their objective as well as avenging Marty. But Joe is left in a depressive state over Marty's death.
Trivia[]
- Marty is at least around 17 during the 1951 part of the game, which would have made him 11 during the 1945 portion. Despite being mentioned by Joe and Henry to have hung around Freddy's Bar, he is never seen during that part in the actual campaign.
- Due to his high pitched voice, Vito compares him to Woody Woodpecker and Henry compares him to Minnie Mouse.
- After Marty's death, Vito gets his apartment after his own home is burned down by the Irish mob.
