~ Marvin's first words to Paul

Marvin Mark is the main antagonist of Petscop, the abusive father of his daughter Care, husband of Anna, and implied uncle of the game's creator, Rainer. He makes frequent appearances through Paul's playthrough, often guiding him to follow his commands.

Biography[]

Background[]

The earliest known event in Marvin's life is in 1977, when he went to a windmill with his friend Lina and her sister Anna. Through ambiguous circumstances, both Lina and the windmill disappeared. Although unconfirmed, Petscop's creator, Rainer, heavily implies that Marvin might've killed Lina. At an unknown point in time, Marvin married the sister, Anna, and they had a daughter named Carrie Mark, or just Care. Marvin likely becomes a music teacher at a school around this time. Petscop implies that Marvin's ultimate goal is to ressurect his long lost friend Lina, and his first known attempt to do this was likely with his nephew, Michael Hammond. Marvin likely abused Mike while doing this, which somehow resulted in Mike dying (either through direct murder by Marvin or suicide).

After this, Marvin's wife, Anna, begins to notice that Care wasn't growing any eyebrows. Although Marvin plays dumb when questioned by Anna, Petscop implies that he secretly did know the reason. Marvin began to take note of Care by this point, as his friend Lina also didn't have any eyebrows. By 1996, Mike's brother, Rainer (real name implied to be Daniel), begins working on the game Petscop to expose Marvin for all of his crimes. Marvin is later kicked out of the house by his wife, but he seems to still be able to meet up with Care. However, Marvin begins to spend less and less time with Care, likely by Anna's suggestion. Determined to fulfill his plans, Marvin kidnaps Care on June 5th, 1997, and brings her to the abandoned school. There, Marvin begins educating Care to try to rebirth her into Lina. One such moment was when he showed Care her reflection on the red vase of a flower and said that she was ugly, and that no one would want to see her like that.

The remaining details of the abuse and the rebirthing process are left unclear, but they likely have something to do with playing the piano and some sort of machine inside the basement of the school. Care eventually escapes from the school on November 10th, 1997, and she returns home on her birthday on November 12th. It's implied that on November 11th she found the grave of Marvin's friend, Lina. Marvin likely remains in the school after Care escapes. During Care's imprisonment, Marvin was given Petscop by Rainer. It is confirmed that he played it on more than a few occasions. By the beginning of the series, Marvin's exact whereabouts are unknown, but it is likely he was never charged with anything.

Petscop[]

In the present, Marvin is, for whatever reason, seen inside the game, Petscop. His avatar can be seen in many of the darker areas, walking around and bumping into walls. Marvin sees Paul, a YouTuber playing Petscop, and starts giving him instructions relating to navigating the game world and interacting with the character, Care NLM. Marvin can also be seen in one episode catching Care A in a recreation of her childhood home, likely replicating the time he kidnapped her in real life. Marvin is also prominently present in several "recordings" throughout the episodes. When these recordings were recorded is exactly unclear. In one such recording, Marvin starts to talk with Paul using some sort of player inputted language that exists in the game. He guides Paul into the school and attempts to make him play the Needles Piano, a strange instrument like object that exists within the game. Paul eventually starts messing up and his music starts sounding bad, prompting Marvin to tell him to stop and do better next time.
