Marvin Posey is the secondary antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode “Manhunt”. He is the submissive accomplice of serial killer Darryl Kern.
He was portrayed by Paul Sparks, who also portrayed Mustache in The Lovebirds and Wacey Hedeman in Joe Pickett.
Biography[]
History[]
After Posey’s father beat his mother to death during his childhood, Posey was raised by his aunt, Mary. Later working as a deliveryman, Posey developed a friendship with Darryl Kern, a sadistic military veteran, bonding over their shared interest in hunting. Together, they assisted each other in a series of brutal crimes, abducting, torturing, and raping young women. They used a warehouse in Alphabet City as a holding area and disposal site for the victims.
Initially, investigators believed they were tracking a lone serial killer, nicknamed “The Bowery Stalker.” Their crimes continued until one intended victim, Sarah Kimmel, managed to escape the warehouse after Posey made a mistake. Her escape led the authorities directly to the scene, forcing Posey and Kern to flee and lay low for a time.
Later, Kern killed one of Posey’s acquaintances, a plumber named Ernest Dillman, in order to take over his cabin near Walden Falls, close to Watertown. From there, they resumed their killing spree, stealing valuables and accessing their victims’ credit cards and bank accounts. With the stolen money, they constructed a survivalist bunker designed to imprison their future captives as sex slaves.
"Manhunt"[]
Posey and Kern eventually resurfaced in New York City, where they abducted another young woman, Annie Tassler. During the abduction, Posey posed as a concerned bystander, pretending to assist in rescuing Annie from Kern. However, this was a ruse. Kern managed to escape while Posey misled authorities by giving them a fake name, Marty Potter, along with a false account of what had happened, aiming to steer the investigation away from Kern.
Detectives John Munch and Fin Tutuola of the NYPD's Special Victims Unit eventually uncovered Posey’s real identity with the unwitting help of his aunt, but by then, both he and Kern had already gone into hiding. A large-scale manhunt was launched involving the New York State Police, the ATF, and the SVU detectives. During the search, it was discovered that Kern, angered by Posey’s earlier mistakes, had brutally killed him. Posey’s mutilated body was found hanging from a rope, with phones taped to him.
Kern was later apprehended and charged with Posey’s murder along with the murders of his other victims. He was ultimately sentenced to death and executed for his crimes.
