The Marxio Brothers are a trio of minor antagonists in the Sonic the Comic comic book series. They are electrician siblings who used to work for Dr. Robotnik, often assisting him in schemes against Sonic the Hedgehog and other Freedom Fighters, as well as the stars of their own video game series.
Biography[]
Past[]
Marxio Brothers were once residents of a place called "Super Marxio World", a location even they dread, until they became servants of Dr. Robotnik.
Sonic the Comic[]
The Marxio Brothers ran the Casino Night Zone, where they rigged the games in order to brainwash Mobians into compuslive gambling, until Sonic and Porker Lewis foiled their plan.
After Robotnik built the Carnival Night Zone on the Floating Island, he assigned the brothers to run it. The three lured Knuckles into it and tried to kill him with death traps disguised as attractions. When Knuckles uncovered their plan, they let the visitors in, knowing that Knuckles wouldn't destroy the Zone with civilians in it. The echidna found a solution by separating Carnival Night from the island just before the visitors entered, letting it fall down to Mobius.
After Robotnik was overthrown, the Marxio Brothers have seemingly gone straight and turned up as managers of the Chemical Plant Zone. When Megatox was causing the plant to malfunction, the brothers called Sonic in to investigate and prevent its potential destruction, with Sonic barely defeating him. The hedgehog believed it to be a deliberate setup by the Marxios, but they denied any involvement.
Sonic the Comic: Online![]
In the "unofficially official" continuation, the Marxio Brothers only make episodic appearances. During New Robotnik Empire's initial assault, they were among residents of Mobius resisting its forces.
At some point after the empire's defeat, they slipped back into their evil ways by attempting to destroy Sonic, claiming that the "Philantropy-bot" they were inside of had gotten out of control and was attacking bystanders and Sonic against their orders, though Chicio accidentally spilled the truth. Sonic, with Amy's help, eventually defeated the robot, and refused to help the brothers out of it on the grounds that he didn't trust them.
Personality[]
Grouchio is the leader of the trio, and appears to be the most intelligent, and often dismissive of his brothers. Chicio is often nervous, and is responsible for most of the gang's physical work despite his less than stellar intelligence. Little can be said about Harpio's personality, as he never talks, aside from his appearance in Issue 278 of Online!, where he quotes Sun Tzu.
Trivia[]
- The Marxio Brothers are a blatant parody of the Super Mario Brothers, the mascots of Nintendo, Sega's main rivals in the console wars of the 1990s, except that Marxio Brothers are a group of three rather than two. They are also partially inspired by the Marx Brothers comedians, having names similar to three of them, although there were five Marx Brothers in total.
