~ Mary Ellen getting angry at Slappy for not wanting to marry her. |
Mary-Ellen is the secondary antagonist of the Goosebumps Series 2000 book Bride of the Living Dummy and the television episode of the same name from the Goosebumps TV show. She is Katie and Amanda's living doll (Katie's only in the episode) who fell in love with Slappy.
Personality[]
Mary-Ellen is very manipulative and bossy saying that she’ll hurt Katie‘s older sister Jillian, and her mother and father. She is also shown to be naïve.
Biography[]
In the book, she is the doll of Jillian’s twin sisters, Katie and Amanda, in the episode she is only Katie’s. In both the book and episode, she falls in love with Slappy and wishes to marry him, only to be rejected, much to her fury. Furious, she fights Slappy and they both get sawed in half with a table-saw. In the book Marry-Ellen is dead for good while Slappy takes control of Jillian whereas in the episode hers and Slappy’s spirits float around and Mary-Ellen’s ghost escapes successfully whereas Slappy takes control of Harrison instead.
Appearance[]
In the book, she has rosy cheeks and an evil grin with Bride of Frankenstein-styled hair with a white dress and pink sash. In the episode, she has blonde hair, blue eyes, and a pink bow in her hair.
Trivia[]
- Mary Ellen's origins are never revealed. It is possible that she was brought to life by the same wizard who brought Slappy, Mr. Wood, Wally, and Goldie to life (identified as Ephraim Darkwell in Slappy, Beware!), though this is not stated.
- It's possible that Mary-Ellen may've served as part of the inspiration for Tiffany Valentine, the secondary antagonist in the Child's Play series.
- Tiffany Valentine and Mary-Ellen have a few similarities and differences. In the TV Series, similar to Tiffany Valentine, Mary-Ellen is an evil blonde doll who fell in love with the main villain of their series, in this case, Slappy. The only differences are: Tiffany Valentine was a human being, who was killed by Chucky, and had her soul transferred into a doll like him, while Mary-Ellen has always been a possessed doll; Mary-Ellen brought Slappy to life because she wanted to marry him, just like how Tiffany brought Chucky back because she thought that he wanted to get married, but they were both shocked to find out that wasn't the case.
