Masashi Oyama is the main antagonist of the Detective Conan/Case Closed episode "Alpine Hut in the Snowy Mountain Murder Case"/"A Game of Murder". He was a professor at Tohto University Medical School, better known for his thesis of using alternative medicals for Intestinal Cancer, However, the thesis itself would prove him as a villain.
He was voiced by the late Yuzuru Fujimoto in Japanese.
Biography[]
He first appeared after Conan, Ran and Kogoro are locked out of their villa (plus Kogoro lost the key and attempted to break the door, which Conan and Ran stopped him from doing it) and introduce himself as a fan of his work and offer them to come to his villa for dinner while they call the caretaker for the spare key for the villa.
Upon arriving at the villa, Kogoro (while giving a good impression) admire the structure of the villa, when suddenly Kaori Nakahara, one of his assistants arrived with food for dinner for her and the others when Masashi told her that he invited three other guests for dinner. During the dinner, the other assistants (Tomoyasu Kanazawa, Ginji Tobita and Kaho Ezumi) praised him as a great doctor and professor due to his "The Development of Genetic Treatment for Intestinal Cancer" thesis he created. After Kaori discovered that she forgot to get snacks for the drinks, she headed to the store where a few moments later Masashi realize it's almost nine and headed to his den, which Kaho revealed that his favorite show is on and never miss it.
Later as he is watching the show, a shadowy figure appeared and seems to hit him with a blunt item. An Hour later Masashi (now seen tied up and gaged while bleeding) is monologuing in his mind that he knows why the culprit (who attack him earlier) attack him and their motive for doing it but realize that since Kogoro is here, he will solve this case the culprit's plan will be exposed just as he struggled to pick himself up.
With two hours have passed since the end of his show (with the others knowing that he like to watch the same episode twice for his favorite scene) Kaori went to check on him, only to scream upon seeing his corpse tied, gaged and stabbed, leading the assistants, Conan and Ran to rush into the den. As the students are sad that their professor is dead, they attempted to untie him, but Kogoro (who is awake and half drunk) stopped them and attempt to solve who killed him (plus due to the storm, the police are unable to come)
While examine the body, Kogoro asked the students if anything value was here in the den, which Tomoyasu revealed a safe that Masashi kept his money and since the safe wasn't opened, it meant an attempt to rob him didn't go as plan. Kogoro then believed (in one of his failed deductions) that a theft tied him up and torture him for the combination of the safe until Conan pointed out that theft would have taken his gold watch as a second prize (which Kogoro thought the theft was an idiot). After Conan pointed out another trick the culprit did, Kogoro now believed that the culprit is actually one of Mashahi's students who killed him.
Of course, both Kaori and Ginji have alibis due to Kaori going to the store to get the snacks while Ginji went night skiing (with proof of a receipt) while Kaho was with Ran doing the dishes, leaving Tomoyasu as the only suspect in question. However, when Conan notice the lighter with blood stain that matched the tablecloth and discovered who the culprit is, he knocked out Kogoro and revealed that the killer is actually Kaori Nakahara.
However, Kaori claims that she isn't the killer as she went to the store at the time, he was killed but she only showed the list and not a receipt, just like Ginji. After realizing that the blood covered cloth and the lighter was a message, that indicated that Kaori is the killer, she admits it and revealed her motive for killing him.
Turns out that "The Development of Genetic Treatment for Intestinal Cancer" thesis that Mashashi claimed to have wrote wasn't actually his but rather Kaori's thesis, that took her six years to complete, which she did due to a tragedy that happened to her when she was a little girl when her father died of Intestinal Cancer. However, he took it and explains that if she revealed it, no one would believe her but if he took it, the scientific community would pay more attention to it.
Realizing that, Kaori decide to kill Masahi and avenge her father's memories. She thought her plan was perfect until she notices the cloth and lighter. She also revealed that she did get the ice cream but lied about the ice cream being sold out since she used the heater in her car and left it on too long for the ice cream to melt.
Trivia[]
In the FUNimation dub, while Masashi remained a professor at Tohto University Medical School, His assistants were downgraded to his students and that he threatens Kaori by saying that if she doesn't give him the paper, he'll make sure that she'll never graduate.
