~ Aizawa before his battle with Kiryu. |
Masato Aizawa is one of the two main antagonists, as well as the final boss of Yakuza 5. He works for the Tojo Clan as a bodyguard for Daigo Dojima, but is secretly the son of Tsubasa Kurosawa, the seventh chairman of the Omi Alliance.
He was voiced by Hiroki Masumoto.
Appearance[]
Aizawa is a mountain of a man. He has tan skin and a punch perm, as well as a slight stubble. His back is adorned with a tattoo of a koi similar to that of another final boss, with a black and gold color scheme. He wears a black suit with a silver tie in the first half of the game, and a white pinstripe suit with a purple shirt at the end of the game.
Personality[]
Aizawa at first seems like a soft-spoken, if impulsive, man. As the game progresses, his true self is revealed. He's still impulsive and passionate, but nowhere near as soft-spoken as was once believed. He still has a sense of honor, refusing to stoop to his father's level and working for his power instead of using deception.
Biography[]
Aizawa was born as the illegitimate son of Tsubasa Kurosawa, the seventh chairman of the Omi Alliance. He would eventually become the sworn brother of Yu Morinaga, and the two would become relatively close friends. In 2012, Kurosawa would be diagnosed with terminal cancer. He took this time to hatch a plan to take over both the Tojo Clan and Omi Alliance, as he had no legacy to leave behind for his son. Aizawa and Morinaga would join the Tojo Clan as bodyguards of Daigo Dojima and Minoru Aoyama, the Tojo Chief of HQ and loyal follower of Kurosawa.
After Daigo goes missing in Nagasugai, Morinaga and Aizawa attempt to convince Kazuma Kiryu to help them look for him, to no avail. Aizawa snaps at Kiryu, which prompts Kiryu to take them both at the same time, defeating them handily. Despite their earlier scuffle, Kiryu tracks the duo down and enlists them to help him raid the Yamagasa Family to search for Aoyama, whom he believes had a hand in Daigo's disappearance. Their confrontation with Aoyama results in Morinaga getting shot, and Aizawa escorts him to safety as Kiryu battles the Yahate, the Yamagasa Family captain. Not long after that, Morinaga would abandon Aizawa and tell Kiryu that he killed him.
Aizawa was, in fact, not dead, and was instead fighting in the underground coliseum in Purgatory, where he fights to learn Morinaga's whereabouts. Taiga Saejima, patriarch of the Saejima Family and prison escapee, ended up encountering Aizawa as he had gone to Purgatory for the same information. Saejima witnesses Aizawa in a fight, where he fights against a white man. Aizawa gets the man onto the ground and beats him relentlessly, as the crowd goes from applauding to being genuinely disgusted. Before he can deliver the killing blow, Saejima grabs his fist and stops him. To get him to cool down, Saejima sits down and talks with him, telling him about how Morinaga abandoned him. As a way to help raise his spirits, Saejima battles Aizawa in the coliseum. After he is defeated, the Florist of Sai reveals Morinaga's fate: he was killed. Saejima tells Aizawa to stay put as he goes to pursue the potential threat, but Aizawa leaves anyway.
As the events of the finale happen, Aizawa storms the Tojo Clan HQ and tears it apart, beating anyone who walks in his path. He posts up in the conference room, where he patiently awaits Kiryu. When he finally arrives, he uses the situation to reveal the truth: he's the son of Kurosawa, and Kurosawa wants to take over the Tojo and Omi as a parting gift for his son. Aizawa, however, doesn't want to achieve that merit through nepotism. Instead, he wants to battle Kiryu for the title on his own merits. He discards his katana and then his shirt, and Kiryu does the same. There's a brief moment of silence before Aizawa screams and rushes Kiryu, with him following not long after. The two punch each other in the face and begin their battle for the fate of the yakuza. The fight is long and hard and takes the duo all throughout the Tojo Clan HQ, eventually reaching its climax in the snowy entranceway. As they fight, Kiryu's bullet wound reopens, yet miraculously he manages to win. Exhausted, Kiryu tells Aizawa he wants to see him fight his way to the top, and will battle him again once he does. Aizawa hears this, then blacks out.
