| ~ Masked Duke after the Executioner is defeated by Rose. |
The Masked Duke is a major antagonist in Shadows of Rose, the DLC of the 2021 survival horror video game Resident Evil Village.
He is the brutal ruler of the Castle Dimitrescu Stratum within the Megamycete tasked by Miranda to bring a perfect host for her daughter Eva through the Rose copies and clones.
He was voiced and mo-capped by Aaron LaPlante, and by Chafurin (who also voiced Panda King in the Sly Cooper series, Wyzen in Asura's Wrath and Zomom in Sonic Lost World) in the Japanese version.
Biography[]
Background[]
He was created within the realm of consciousness by Miranda, and had a job in one Stratum in the Megamycete where he would watch over Castle Dimitrescu. In one of his diary entries, the Masked Duke recognize his sadistic traits, but his memories were all broken. He was tasked by Miranda to invoke terrors into the hearts of the Rose copies in order to bring out a perfect vessel for Eva, as the copies could only tap into Rose's powers when under great stress. He created false hope for the copies with the fake purifying crystal and judging from all the corpses lying around and that it’s still there when the real rose shows up means that no one has it.
For presumably sixteen years or so he has been ruling over the castle with barbaric cruelty killing Rose copies for fun and enjoying it, referring to them as rabbits in his twisted game. One instance of this is that he has a hallway with all the Rose copies who managed to collect one mask's dead bodies in extremely brutal ways with one room being a puzzle room.
Shadows of Rose[]
When the Real Rose shows up in the realm he sends in multiple face eaters to kill the Rose copies that are locked up, in an extremely brutal way by literally sucking out their faces and draining their life force of them leaving behind a calcified and messed up face. Upon Rose escaping the dungeon she witnesses him torture one copy by summoning a bunch of face eaters to make her lost, then when Rose accidentally reveals herself, he sends all the face eaters to kill her.
Upon Rose calcifying a sclerotia he taunts her through a television and sends the executioner to kill Rose. Then when she got the second mask he taunts rose again and sends the executioner and multiple face eaters to kill her.
When Rose finally collected the final mask, he has the executioner knock her out and kidnap her, then locks her inside a prison with many fake scelotria and she has to calcify the real ones to escape, or else she dies. Rose manages to escape with the help of "Michael", and she continues her search for the final mask.
When Rose finally gets the crystal he reveals it's fake much to Rose’s chagrin then drags her down into an arena to forcefully fight the executioner. When the executioner dies, he is enraged, calling the monster a disappointment and useless, then sends more face eaters to kill Rose until she escapes. What's surprising is that he gets away with everything he did, as he is never seen for the rest of the game.
Appearance[]
Like his original counterpart in the real world, he is a chubby, morbidly obese man, sitting on a chair wearing a blue suit & a white mask with 4 eyes, it's also said that he is scarred under there too
Trivia[]
- Rose meeting the sadistic evil Masked Duke is ironic considering the real life version was vital in the play of her rescue by her father Ethan Winters.
