Masked Workers are the lowest-ranked Masked Men and supporting antagonists in Season 1 of the South Korean Netflix drama series Squid Game. Clad in masks with circle emblems, they serve as menial laborers in the Squid Game and are charged with performing tasks such as disposing of the bodies of dead players and cleaning up each area of the game after the game is finished. They are also responsible for preparing props for the game, such as baking the sugar honeycombs for round 2.
While they are not participants in the game like the players, Masked Workers must still follow a rigid set of rules. They are forbidden from removing their masks when they are outside of their living quarters and are not allowed to speak unless given permission by a superior. Violating the former rule is punishable by immediate execution. When not working, Masked Workers are confined to small living areas where they are served food and sleep.
History[]
After all the players were selected for the Squid Game, the Masked Workers knocked each one out with a sleeping gas and drove them to a port to be transported to the remote island where the game would take place. Arriving on the island, they changed the clothes of the players to green jumpsuits and placed them in their bunkbeds before the competition began. Once everyone had woken up, the Masked Workers walked in with a Masked Manager, who announced the Squid Game to the players and explained the rules.
For each round of the game, the Masked Workers gathered up the bodies of the dead players and brought them to the furnace room to incinerate them. The defeated players who were somehow still clinging to their lives after the game, were sealed inside their coffins and burned with the other bodies anyway.
