~ Master-D rebuking Rad's attempts to defeat him. |
Master-D (Adolf Hitler in the original Japanese version) is the overarching antagonist and final boss of the 1988 NES platformer Bionic Commando and its 2008 remake Bionic Commando Rearmed. He was once the leader of a hegemonic group of extremists known as the Badds, which threatened the peace among nations.
History[]
In a alternative timeline, Master-D and his Badds regime was defeated in a great war in a distant past, resulting in Master-D's death. Despite losing the war, the Badds ideology remained, with Master-D's beliefs being still influential and eventually lead to the creation of the Empire. To make matters worse, the head of the Empire, Generalissimo Killt, came across a Badds' top secret project for world domination, The Albatross, that was never finished, he decided to finish it himself. Super Joe is sent to defeat Killt's plan, but is captured.
Super Joe would eventially be rescued by Rad Spencer. Super Joe reveals that Killt is actually currently unable to finish the Albatross Project, because he lacks information that only Master-D knew and took to the grave with. He has found out that Killt is trying to resurrect him to get the nessecary details to complete it.
In the final confrontation Rad Spencer comes across Killt who tells him that they have managed to get the Albatross operational, even without Master-D's input. Since Killt now has Albatross, he deems there is no need to revive Master-D anymore. However just before dealing with Rad, Master-D comes back to life and the machine that was resurrecting him explodes, instantly killing Killt.
Master-D takes control of the Albatross, a powerful airship armed with a laser beam, and the final battle begins. After his defeat Master D attempts to escape in a helicopter but Radd stops him with a bazooka given to him by Hal, a dying comrade, Master-D finally meets his demise and his head explodes in one of the most infamous gory scenes in the NES era.
Trivia[]

- Despite's Nintendo's strict censorship guidelines during NES era, with English version changing his name and removed all references to the Nazis (referring to them as the "Badds" in the script) - Master-D's semblance to Hitler was left unaltered.
- Master-D's death - where he is shot in the head with a bazooka through a window of a large aircraft - was likely inspired by that of Kycilia Zabi from Mobile Suit Gundam, who suffered very similar death (sans extreme gore).
- What the "D" stands for in Master-D is unknown. In Worlds of Power novelization, D stands for Destructo. Otherwise, it is speculated to stand for "Dictator".
