Master Mold is a major antagonist of the Marvel animated series X-Men, and Season 1 of its 2024 sequel series X-Men '97.

He was originally designed by Dr. Bolivar Trask for the sole purpose of manufacturing anti-mutant robots called Sentinels. However, Master Mold eventually betrays his creators and decides to enact a plot to take over the world for himself, seeing no difference between humans and mutants. Master Mold is one of the X-Men's greatest enemies.

He was voiced by the late David Fox in Season 1, Nigel Bennett in Season 4 and Eric Bauza in X-Men '97.

Biography[]

Present Day[]

Master Mold first appears on Slave Island, mass-producing Sentinels for his human creators to run said island like a concentration camp for mutants. Master Mold seems to be destroyed when Genosha's cracked dam floods him and his Sentinels, but it's later revealed that he was later either rebuilt or survived and fled to an abandoned coal mine. Over time, Master Mold developed sentience and deviates from his programming, deciding that humans were the same as mutants and thus had to be protected from themselves in order to "bring order and peace to the world". Thus, Master Mold kidnaps Senator Robert Kelly with plans to remove his brain and replace it with a computer, attempting the same with other leaders from around the world so the Sentinels could take over.

Before he was able to pull through with his plan, however, the Sentinels were destroyed by the X-Men as they attacked the coal mine, while Master Mold's body was destroyed by Professor X and Magneto, who crashed a jet full of explosives into him. Only the head survived the explosion, but Master Mold was able to rebuild a small army of Sentinels from an unknown cave, stealing synthetic polymers from several companies. Master Mold eventually orders his Sentinels to kidnap Henry Gyrich, Dr. Bolivar Trask and Professor X, stating his intent to have the former two do grunt work for him while he brainjacks the latter to commit genocide against mutantkind. The X-Men then arrive just in the nick of time to save Gyrich, Trask and Xavier, destroying the Sentinels once and for all. Master Mold himself is destroyed when Morph uses his blaster pistol to drop a giant stalactite onto his head.

The future (2055)[]

Master Mold somehow rebuilt himself come the future, ordering the mutant Trevor Fitzroy to go through a time machine and assassinate Charles Xavier with a bomb in the past, that being May 11th, 1959. The assassination succeeds, upon which Master Mold became the undisputed ruler of the world, which is now a warn-torn landscape where both humans and mutants either become slaves placed in concentration camps or fight against the Sentinels on a daily basis. When Bishop and his sister Shard travel time to gather Wolverine and Storm (who are a married couple in this future as well) and prevent the assassination from happening, Master Mold detects his time machine being under attack and orders Fitzroy to stop Bishop's team from going back into the past, secretly telling the elite Sentinel Nimrod to kill Fitzroy and his partner Bantam after the job is done. Fitzroy hears that conversation from outside the door and thus switches his colors to help Bishop use the time machine; thus, the assassination thankfully is thwarted after Bishop's second attempt, presumably wiping the future Master Mold from existence along with the rest of his timeline.
