The Masters of Evil are major antagonists in the 2010 animated series Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. They are a group of infamous and personal supervillains that are led by Baron Zemo.
Biography[]
The Masters of Evil were formed by the Enchantress and Executioner, who invited Baron Zemo to lead them in a coordinated effort to destroy the Avengers. Their actions were secretly masterminded by Loki, who intended to use the team to further his own goals of conquering Earth and Asgard.
The team was gradually assembled, with members like Wonder Man, Crimson Dynamo, and Abomination being recruited to fight the Avengers. In the episode "The Masters of Evil", the villains launch a full-scale assault on Avengers Mansion. They manage to take the main Avengers members captive, leaving only Hawkeye, Black Panther and Ant-Man to save their teammates. Black Panther and Hawkeye distract the Masters of Evil while Ant-Man gets some items from his lab. Eventually the rest of the Avengers are free and almost defeat the Masters of Evil until Zemo tells Enchantress to transport them to Arnim Zola's lab.
The Masters of Evil return with new members Living Laser, Chemistro, and Grey Gargoyle who is killed by Skurge when the Enchantress is through with him in the episode "This Hostage Earth". They plan to use the Norn Stones to make Earth one with the various Asgardian Kingdoms. Zemo realized that the Enchantress was using him along and betrays her. The Avengers managed to foil the Masters of Evil's scheme by destroying the Norn Stones, which transported them to each of the Nine Realms.
In the episode "Acts of Vengeance", Enchantress plans to get revenge on Zemo and the rest of the Masters of Evil, hunting them down one by one. She turns Chemistro to gold, kills Arnim Zola, and traps Living Laser in his light form thus leaving Zemo, Wonder Man, Abomination, and Crimson Dynamo petrified. Desperate, they form an uneasy alliance with Avengers to defeat the Enchantress for good.
However, even their combined efforts weren't enough to fully stop the Enchantress. Amora prepares to kill Zemo who in a panic uses the final Norn Stone to Muspelheim to shield himself from her magic. In the scuffle, Wonder Man and Enchantress are transported to Muspelheim after being enveloped in the power of the Norn Stone. In the aftermath, Enchantress becomes Surtur's Demon Queen while Zemo, Abomination, Crimson Dynamo, and Executioner are captured by the Avengers and sent to Prison 42.
Wonder Man's fate is uncertain but it is most likely he was killed by Amora or Surtur.
