Mateo is a major antagonist in the 2023 horror film Saw X, the tenth installment of the Saw franchise.
He is a member of the The Pederson Project and one of the scammers who cheated on people with terminal sicknesses. Because of this, Mateo and the rest of the project members were kidnapped by Jigsaw and Amanda Young.
He was portrayed by Octavio Hinojosa in his first villainous role.
Biography[]
Mateo, along with Cecilia Pederson and other accomplices, regularly defrauded people with terminal illnesses as part of The Pederson Project in order to make a profit. One day, John Kramer turns to them and, having completed it, goes to Mexico for treatment. However, John later finds out about the deception and at night, along with Amanda Young, kidnaps Cecilia Pederson and all her accomplices, including Mateo.
After that, John puts them in lethal devices. After Valentina's dies in one of their traps, Mateo becomes the subject. He wakes up tied to wheelchair and his task consisted in cutting out a piece of brain tissue and let it dissolve in a tank of enzymes in order to retrieve a key that would free him. Mateo fulfills the conditions, but the piece of brain does not dissolve in time, causing the timer to run out and a mask with heat coils to close on his head, roasting his face to death.
