Matt Chambers is a minor antagonist in the TV show Dexter, serving as the main antagonist of the episode "Crocodile". He is a repeat drunk driver who escapes conviction for multiple accidents by faking remorse.
He was portrayed by Sam Trammell.
Biography[]
Chambers is an alcoholic who regularly drives while drunk, often resulting in accidents. He was involved in an accident in Santa Fe in which he left a woman paralyzed from the neck down, and another in South Boston in which an off-duty firefighter was killed. Chambers was put on trial for these accidents under the aliases "Matt Rasmussen" and "Matthew Brewster" but escaped conviction both times by putting on a sad face and claiming that someone else had caused the accident. He would then move to a new city and continue drunk driving.
"Crocodile"[]
After his latest accident Chambers moves to Miami, where he runs over and kills a young man named Alexander Pryce while drunk. He is arrested after fleeing the scene and charged with manslaughter. Dexter Morgan attends Matt's trial, where he puts on a sad face and sheds crocodile tears for the victim before claiming that his car was stolen a few hours before the accident. He is once again acquitted and Dexter decides to target him.
Dexter stalks Chambers to a bar and makes conversation, discovering that Chambers is planning to leave Miami. Suspicious of Chamber's claims to have "moved around a lot", Dexter extracts his fingerprints from a glass and discovers Chamber's history of causing accidents under aliases. Realizing that Chambers will continue his behaviour in another city, Dexter sets up a kill room.
After briefly surveilling Carlos Guerrero but deciding against killing him, Dexter ambushes Chambers, sedates him with M99 and drags him back to the kill room, where he cling-films him to a table. He then forces Chambers to look at a picture of Alexander Pryce. Chambers initially denies everything, claiming the Pryce family set him up, but Dexter forces him to confess that he was driving drunk when he killed him. He then stabs Chambers in the heart, dismembers his body and dumps the remains off Bay Harbor.
