Marriage is a partnership, a little tit for tat; you'd think a lifetime watching us might have taught her that.
~ Maudeline Everglot

Maudeline and Finis Everglot are the secondary antagonists of Tim Burton's Corpse Bride. They are the parents of Victoria Everglot. After coming upon hard times, they attempted to marry their daughter off in order to re-obtain their wealthy status.

Maudeline was voiced by Joanna Lumley, who had previously portrayed Countess Chandra from Curse of the Pink Panther, Aunt Spiker from Tim Burton's James and the Giant Peach and Evita from The Foxbusters. Finis was voiced by the late Albert Finney, who also portrayed Dr. Albert Hirsch in The Bourne Ultimatum.

Personalities[]

Maudeline and Finis Everglot are stern and cold. Neither truly love each other, only seeing their marriage as a partnership. They are both quite concerned with propriety and proper appearances. Both of them coming from wealthy backgrounds, they are extravagant, pretentious, arrogant, expecting everything to be done perfectly for them because of their status.

Neither of the Everglots care about their daughter, instead neglecting her and leaving the home's help to raise her. They were both willing to force her to marry whomever they pleased in order to have their own needs met.

Biography[]

Both of them are seen at the beginning of the movie singing about how everything has to be perfect in order for the wedding between their daughter and Victor to be successful. They are later seen talking to their daughter about the marriage, and how they don't really love each other. They reconvene to meet the groom (Victor) and his parents, touring them around the house. Soon they and the groom's parents watch on at the rehearsal. During the rehearsal, Victor drops the candle by mistake, Maudeline's dress catches on fire and Lord Barkis puts out the fire with his wine, with the family mad at Victor.

After Emily takes Victor away, the Everglots are informed of the trouble. They both become angry with Victor's parents, and so Victor's parents plead to give them until noon. They would be seen again briefly a while after this talking about how they would strangle him for leaving.

After Victoria witnessed Victor be taken away by Emily, she goes to her parents for help, but they donn't believe her and instead sent her in her room. Victoria escapes to tell the Priest, who returned her to the Everglots to tell them that she was insane. They then force their maid and butler to lock Victoria's window to make sure she doesn't escape again. When Lord Barkis comes up to the Everglot family, he persuades to marry Victoria and agrees with him. They then force their daughter to marry Barkis instead, which went according to plan. Later, during the reception, the underworld began to rise and come into the world of the living. They invaded the Everglot's home, causing a ruckus to occur. All of their mansion's help escaped and they were forced to deal with the dead themselves. After seeing one of Finis' dead relatives, they both ran straight to their rooms with fear. It is unknown if they ever found out if Lord Barkis was merely planning to marry their daughter for their money, or if he had intended to kill her afterwards.
