~ Mauvier to the Divine Dragon Army. |
Sir Mauvier, also known as the Honest Warrior and the Penitent Knight, is a major character in the 2023 tactical role-playing video game Fire Emblem: Engage.
Mauvier is a priest of the Fell Dragon King Sombron's religion who is tasked with guarding Sombron's youngest child, Veyle, who has been asleep for a thousand years. Once Veyle wakes up, she makes Mauvier her retainer and the latter joins the squad of elite officers serving the Fell Dragon Sombron: the Four Hounds. While Mauvier works for both Fell Dragons, he develops a deep loyalty towards Veyle and is willing to do anything to protect her, which includes fighting the Divine Dragon's army and helping Sombron in his invasion of Elyos to gather the Emblem Rings for his master plan.
He is voiced by Gavin Hammon in English and Tomoaki Maeno in Japanese.
Physical Appearance[]
Mauvier is a tall man with tanned skin, dark grey hair and beard and brown eyes. He wears silver armor with dark blue and black highlights, black pants, silver boots with dark blue highlights and a dark blue cape.
Biography[]
Mauvier hails from the Kingdom of Firene on the continent of Elyos. When Mauvier's father falls ill, the future knight's mother prays to the Divine Dragon Lumera for the recovery of her husband. Unfortunately, said husband dies and Mauvier moves to Kingdom of Elusia after his mother becomes deluded with the Divine Dragon and decides to worship the Fell Dragon Sombron out of belief that the latter will be more proactive than Lumera, "who let Mauvier's father die". Sadly Mauvier's mother dies as well despite the prayers and Mauvier himself loses his faith in the gods. The priests of the Fell Dragon take Mauvier in and turn him into a stoic and ruthless follower of Sombron through harsh training.
Mauvier rises through the ranks and is made the guardian of the temple where resides the slumbering daughter of Sombron : the Fell Princess Veyle. Veyle proposes to Mauvier to become her friend, but the latter refuses out of belief that he's unworthy of the friendship of a divine being. As a result, Veyle decides to make Mauvier her knight instead and Mauvier agrees. Mauvier joins the Four Hounds (Sombron's top enforcers who are tasked with invading the nations of Elyos to allow the Fell Dragon King to make his wish) and becomes the partner of Marni, the youngest member of the team.
Mauvier doesn't appear during the first half of the story, but takes care of Veyle and learns of her friendship with Lumera's adopted child, the Divine Dragon Alear. Mauvier also knows that Veyle is searching for her missing sibling and that Zephia the leader of the Four Hounds has brainwashed Veyle and created the latter's evil split personality. While Mauvier hides the existence of the Evil Veyle from the Good Veyle, he remains loyal to Good Veyle first and foremost.
Mauvier first appears after the death of Elusia's monarch Hyacinth and the reveal of Evil Veyle's identity. The Four Hounds introduce themselves to Alear's army, the Fell Princess steals the Divine Army's Emblem Rings and Sombron corrupts the godlike items. Evil Veyle and the Hounds try to prevent the heroes' escape, but the crown princess of Elusia, Ivy, and her retainers defect from Sombron's forces and rescue Alea's group. Mauvier comes to respect the Divine Dragon Army during this battle.
Following the tactical retreat of the Divine Dragon Army, Evil Veyle sends the Four Hounds in the Queendom of Solm to get its Emblem Rings. Zephia, Marni and Mauvier take advantage of the attack of Hortensia, Ivy's sister, on Solm Palace to invade the home of the solmese royal family; in the meantime Griss (the last member and second-in-command of the Four Hounds) searches for Veyle when the latter goes missing. Zephia brainwashes Hortensia, but the elusian princess and the three Hounds are defeated and Hortensia joins Alear's crew.
Mauvier and Marni are tasked with protecting the Emblem Ring of the Azure Twins, but the ring is stolen by Rosado and Goldmary (Hortensia's retainers). The two Hounds hunt down Goldmary and Rosado in the desert, but Hortensia reunites with her retainers and convinces the two defectors to help Alear against the Hounds. Alear awakens the Emblems within the ring, gives said ring to Rosado and confronts Marni and Mauvier. The two Hounds are defeated and leave Solm.
