Hi. This is Thesecret1070. I am an admin of this site. Edit as much as you wish, but one little thing... If you are going to edit a lot, then make yourself a user and login. Other than that, enjoy Villains Wiki!!!
The Mawsworn are a faction of powerful enemies associated with the cosmic force of Death in World of Warcraft, introduced in the Shadowlands expansion. They serve the expansion's primary antagonist, Zovaal the Jailer, who has seized control over the realm known as the Maw.
The Jailer, imprisoned in the Maw for eons, gradually accumulated power and influence over various denizens of the Shadowlands. The Mawsworn are corrupted souls and entities—such as Kyrians, Venthyr, and other inhabitants of the afterlife realms—who have been twisted by the Jailer's power and brought into his service. The Mawsworn are bound to the Jailer through dark magic, becoming relentless enforcers and foot soldiers in his plan to disrupt the cycle of life and death and achieve ultimate power over all realms.
The Mawsworn army's size is comparable to that of the Burning Legion, and with the soul-river Gorgoa constantly overflowing, their ranks continue to grow. Their weapons and armor were unwillingly designed by the Runecarver, forced into service by the Jailer's will.
At the deepest reaches of the Shadowlands lies the Maw, a desolate and inescapable prison for souls deemed unforgivable and beyond redemption. These tormented souls endure endless suffering, gradually reduced to mere shadows of their former selves. In time, their spirits break, and they become willing servants of their captor, the Jailer, as Mawsworn soldiers.
After taking her life at Icecrown, Sylvanas Windrunner’s soul was sent to the Maw, where she was tortured by the Mawsworn until the Jailer, Zovaal, revealed himself to her. Years later, at his command, Sylvanas unleashed a campaign of death upon Azeroth, using her role as warchief to ignite the Fourth War and send countless souls to the Maw, swelling its army. With the position of the Lich King ended, Zovaal sent Herald Dalora to rally both the Scourge and the Cult of the Damned in Azeroth. To bolster their forces, Mawsworn Soulbearers raised Scourge champions in Icecrown and captured prominent leaders, including Thrall, Baine Bloodhoof, Jaina Proudmoore, and Anduin Wrynn. Despite an attempt to capture Tyrande Whisperwind, she defeated her attackers. Amid the Scourge's resurgence, the Argent Crusade and the Knights of the Ebon Blade led the offensive against them, joined by Horde and Alliance champions who helped secure a critical victory at the Cathedral of Darkness by defeating Herald Dalora.
When Azeroth’s champions entered the Shadowlands, the death knights of the Ebon Blade who accompanied them were quickly overwhelmed by the Mawsworn. The champions narrowly escaped to Oribos after Anduin summoned holy magic to protect them. Later, the Jailer deployed his Mawsworn, led by Sylvanas, to seize the Winter Queen's sigil in Ardenweald. Although the covenants pushed the Mawsworn back, Anduin breached the Heart of the Forest and stole the sigil. The Mawsworn then attacked Oribos for the Arbiter’s sigil, but the covenants and the Knights of the Ebon Blade managed to hold them off. With four sigils in hand, Zovaal set his plan in motion to escape the Maw, and Sylvanas led the Mawsworn defenses in the Sanctum of Domination against the Maw Walkers.
Once Zovaal entered Zereth Mortis, the Mawsworn spread across the realm to find a way into the Sepulcher of the First Ones. They initially besieged the village of Haven but withdrew when Zovaal deemed it unimportant. Later, the Mawsworn used Domination to control the automa and dismantle the defenses around the Forge of Afterlives.
After Zovaal’s defeat in the Sepulcher of the First Ones, the Mawsworn remain active but leaderless. Sylvanas, now atoning for her actions, continues to confront them as part of her mission to liberate the souls trapped within the Maw.
