Maxima is the queen of the planet Almerac, and an antagonist in season eight of Smallville serving as the main antagonist of the episode "Instinct."

She was played by Charlotte Sullivan, who also played Marion Hawthorne in the 1996 film Harriet the Spy.

Biography[]

Past[]

As a child Maxima was heir apparent to the throne of Almerac and heard tales of Kryptonian men whom she came to consider as the ideal mate. When she came of age, Maxima ascended to the throne and began searching the cosmos for her the perfect mate to rule by her side after she learned that Krypton had been destroyed, though she prayed that some had survived.

Instinct[]

After Tess Mercer experimented with the Crystal of Knowledge, a beam of energy was released into the sky. Maxima received it as a Kryptonian signal which she mistook it as invitation from a Kryptonian on Earth and used a special bracelet to travel across the galaxy to find who sent it.

She teleported to Earth and began searching for the Kryptonian, but every man she encountered turned out to be human. She gave off a deadly kiss that killed several men in Metropolis which caught the attention of Lois Lane.

Maxima then headed to the source of the crystal's signal; the Luthor Mansion and encountered Tess after her assistant, Eva Greer left a gift. After assaulting Tess for accusing her of wanting her "mate" for herself, Maxima took Tess' dress and invitation to dinner at the Ace of Clubs that Oliver Queen had given her.

Maxima went to the club instead and met Jimmy Olsen, whom she kissed. As he started to bleed from the nose, Maxima tells him she's sorry, but he's not the one she's looking for. As Jimmy collapses and Maxima walked away from him after apologizing, Clark entered the club and super speeds through the room to catch Jimmy, but he doesn't notice that Maxima has seen him in action. She watched as Clark rescues Jimmy; with a smile, Maxima said "Now that's more like it" while biting her lower lip.

Clark went back to the Daily Planet, where he went over the security footage from the Ace of Clubs trying to determine the identity of Maxima, when the lights suddenly dim and Maxima super speeds into the room. She tells Clark her name is Maxima and she had been searching for him all her life.

She pulled Clark in for a Kiss that causes him to unleash his built-up passion upon her as they go into the elevator to continue. Their passion intensifies until the elevator doors open and a shocked Lois stands before them. Lois' call to Clark breaks him free of Maxima's phenomenal entrancement. Maxima appears to be very upset that Clark had great concern for Lois and leaves Maxima's side to pursue Lois.

When Lois was getting into her car, Maxima confronted her, telling her that she could sense the love between Lois and Clark and that he wouldn't have been able to resist her had Lois not arrived. As Maxima prepared to eliminate Lois, Tess’ personal security team arrives. She quickly took out the team before turning her attention back to Lois, but before she could kill her, Clark grabbed her and super-speeds away.

Clark hauls Maxima away at super speed back into the alley she arrived in. Maxima claims that Clark is the perfect mate for her, and she is the only perfect mate that he’s ever going to find. Clark rejected Maxima's advances and activated her bracelet, sending her back to Almerac unwillingly. Lois told Clark that there had been no sign of Maxima though Clark remained skeptic that they hadn't seen the last of her.
