Maynard Algerson is a character from World of Warcraft and the husband of Petula Algerson, while he is introduced as a quest-giver and never directly harms nor plots against the players his role is negative and thus he can be seen, in many ways, as the secondary antagonist of his particular quest-chain.
Biography[]
Maynard is introduced as the owner of a Lumber Yard under assault by monsters and rabid animals, his workers beg for his aid but he mostly threatens them for being weak, lazy or outright making things up to escape work - he even shows the same kind of disdain when his son is in danger, always seeing work before anything else.
When the Witch of the Woods is finally slain she reveals her true identity as Petula, Maynard's former wife, she mourns that her husband's exploitation of his workers will never end now that she is gone - to which Maynard calls her ingrateful and turns his back on his family altogether, claiming that only his work mattered now. In a tragic twist, Petula's dying words seemed to become a reality as her husband returned to the Lumber Yard, intent on continuing the same practices that almost led to his ruin.

Maynard's personality was that of a man who became obsessed with his own work, to the point he lost sight of why he had began such work in the first place - claiming to love his family he instead began to neglect them and grew to be harsh and unfeeling, even when his own son was in peril he showed little care other than to get rid of the curse so he could put his son and the other works straight back to work, seeing them as lazy for not "toughing it out".
When confronted with the fact his own mistreatment of workers and family drove Petula into witchcraft he grew angered, seeing her as betraying him and ingrateful - he claimed he worked hard to feed and cloth his family, yet mere moments later he declared that he had no more time for any of his family, coldly rejecting Petula and Benjamin, claiming that only his work mattered now.. while it is possible this is a guise of his grief it still shows he is a hard man who does not forgive, even those close to him.

- while Maynard is not, technically, an active villain he is arguably just as much to blame for the misery of the Lumber Yard as Petula, further his actions following her death show he is indeed a very cold and unforgiving man, even to those he professed to care for.
