Mayu Ikeda (池田真由 Ikeda Mayu) is a minor character in Inuyasha. She is the ghost of a little girl that wants to kill Satoru Ikeda, her little brother, since she believes that he is the cause of her death.

She was voiced by Ayaka Saitō in Japanese and Chantal Strand in English.

Appearance[]

At the moment that she died, Mayu was a 10 years old girl with fair skin, brown eyes and black hair tied in two pigtails with red balls. She wore a blue top with yellow flowers under a red coat, a dark blue skirt and white socks, her body was covered in wounds and burns from the fire. After she redeems herself, her body loses the wounds of the fire and she wears the yukata that her mother made for the school festival, which is blue, having goldfish and water waves decorated on it, a yellow obi around her waist and black zori with red straps.

Personality[]

When she was alive, Mayu seemed to be a happy girl. She actually loved her mother, but was jealous of the time that she had to care of her brother, being this the reason why she caused the fire on her home. After dying in that fire, Mayu became a vengeful spirit who wants to kill her brother since she believes that he has the fault of her death, she also attacks innocent children who plays happily since she has envy of them. Thanks to Kagome's influence, she was capable to admit that she is the only one who caused her death and feels remorse for all that she did to her mother and brother. Mayu then apologizes to her mother and her soul rests in peace.

Biography[]

Mayu was a 10 years old girl who lived in a apartament with her mother and brother, who was two years younger than her. One day Mayu asked to her mother a yukata for a festival in her school (that she was making at the moment) and she wanted her to go to the festival with her. The day of the festival, Satoru became sick and Mrs. Ikeda wasn't capable to go to the festival since she has to take care of Satoru, this caused Mayu to be jealous of her brother since she believed that her mother loves Satoru more than her. One day, when her mother was out of their home, Mayu causes a fire putting a scarf over the radiator while she hides in the wardrobe to make her mother worry about her. Mrs. Ikeda was able to save Satoru but she didn't noticed that Mayu was there, so Mayu tragically died in the fire that she caused. Mayu's soul came back as a ghost to kill Satoru since she believed that her mother abandoned her only to save Satoru, her resentment caused Satoru to go into a coma since the day of the fire.

Six months later, Kagome first meets Mayu while she came across some kids that were playing with fireworks, since Kagome was capable to see her with her powers, Mayu sets off a firework that scared them. Kagome followed Mayu try to convince her to apologize to the children and Mayu became defensive summoning some fire that surrounded them, then Kagome realizes that strangely she was wearing a heavy coat being in a hot season of the year and that she didn't have shoes, Mayu tells Kagome to leave her alone before disappearing. A few days later, Kagome accompanies her brother Sota, who is one of Satoru's classmates, to visit Satoru in the hospital and give him some origami cranes as a present. There Mayu made the IV drip explode and Kagome sees her again, recognizing her as the mysterious girl of the other day. When Kagome and Sota were going back to their home, they pass by the Ikeda's old apartament, there Sota told Kagome about that the same accidents that the one in the hospital happens when people tries to clean the burnt out apartment, at this moment, Mayu throws a flowerpot near them, scaring Sota. Kagome later learns about the existence of evil spirits and the past of Mayu. In that moment, Mayu appears again and used her telekinesis to throw Satoru out the window, but he is saved by Inuyasha in the last moment. Then Tatarimokke, a Youkai who takes care about souls of dead children, appears behind Mayu and opens fully his eyes (which means that he realized that Mayu is a evil spirit and he must take her to Hell), Tatarimokke traps Mayu with his chains and takes her to her old apartament to make her fall to Hell. Kagome follows them, takes Mayu and convinces her about that her mother never abandoned her and she always loved her. Then Mayu realizes everything and her heart changed, now just wanting to see her mother one last time. This closes the warp that almost takes both to Hell and Satoru awakes from the coma. When Mrs. Ikeda visits their old apartament and there Mayu appears and apologizes her mother before going to the afterlife, making peace with her. That night Mayu visits Kagome one last time, wearing the yukata that her mother made for her and thanks her. Then she follows Tatarimokke who plays with her before leaving.
