“ | This world is rich in energon, and it will be ours. But before we can overthrow the Maximals of our homeworld, we must first deal with the ones who followed us and caused us to crash. We survived that crash... and until I see their corpses with my own eyes, it only makes sense to believe they did as well. We have enemies here, on this little planet. Enemies we will eliminate. ~ Megatron declaring the Beast Wars at the end of the first chapter |
Megatron is the main antagonist of the 2021 comic series, Transformers: Beast Wars published by IDW Comics. Formerly an unknown Predacon named Galavar, in fear of history forgetting him as they did his idol who he named himself after, the original Megatron, and disillusioned with the Tripredacus Council's lack of initiative against the Golden Disk, Megatron has stolen the Golden Disk from the Maximals to decode and use it's secrets. Eventually, the crew of the Maximal science ship, the Axalon, intercepted him and in the confrontation, caused them both to travel back to ancient Earth and be stranded there. This leads to the titular conflict of the Beast Wars.
Personality[]
Just like his original counterpart, Megatron is a strict, fierce, and ambitious egomaniac whose desire is to see all subjugated under his heel. Whenever he confronts others, he is always available to gloat about his superiority, and Megatron certainly has the skills to back it up, such as pulling off the impossible feat of stealing the Golden Disk from the Maximal vaults. Megatron prides himself on strategy and ensure his plans get through, using this to frequently outsmart the Maximals and near instantly figures out Tarantulas' treachery while always keeping a calm, refined demeanor.
However, just like the original version, this version's biggest flaw is also his arrogance. He underestimates his enemies, viewing the Maximals on Earth as just a hinderance to his ambitions with the Golden Disk, however upon the Maximal's attacking the Darksyde, he realizes his mistake and takes the Maximals more seriously as enemies. Megatron is prideful, but he is willing to compromise if the need arises, sucha s with the greater threat of the Vok, to which Megatron is more willing to call for a truce with Optimus to deal with the Vok threat.
If there is one thing clear, it is shown that deep down, Megatron's fear is not losing, it is being forgotten. The one time Megatron's refined exterior cracks is only when Nyx mentions how history barely remembers the original Megatron that led the Decepticons, and he wouldn't stand a chance, which is the most he has ever been ticked off in the series.
Biography[]
Galavar was an unknown Predacon living on Cybertron that served the Tripredacus Council, who lead a Predacon separatist movement keen on overthrowing the Maximal Council for the discrimination they faced. Disappointed by the Tripredacus Council's lack of initiative, Galavar rallies up many Predacons of varying origins to be of use to him, Tarantulas, Skold, Dinobot, Scorponok, Terrorsaur and Waspinator, appealing to each of their individual motives and desires.
Learning about the Golden Disk covered up by the Maximal Council from the disgruntled scientist, Reptilion, Megatron performs the impossible heist for the Golden Disk, infiltrating Iacon's Science Minestry and killing it's guards, to steal the Golden Disk. To squash any pursuit, he destroyed all ships having transwarp capabilities from the Great Shipyard destroyed, hijacking the sole one remaining, the Darksyde, to be his own ship. There he broadcasts to the Tripredacus Council, declaring he doesn't need their permission and already did the heist while rechristening himself under a new moniker, Megatron, after the ancient Decepticon leader, and will lead the Decepticons to new heights the Tripredacus Council was too unambitious to reach.
In their travels, they were pursued by the Maximal science exploration ship, the Axalon, to which Megatron orders Tarantulas to activate the Transwarp Drive to travel to the set coordinates they were able to decrypt from the Golden Disk. Arriving near ancient Earth, which was the energon rich planet described by the Golden Disk, the ensuing battle causes both ships to crash. Put on a stasis lock and outfitted with the alt-mode of a Tyrannosaurus rex, to shield himself from the energon radiation. Realizing the rest of the Golden Disk's secrets will also be true, Megatron then has a surveillance team dispatched to see if the Maximals are dead or alive, knowing that if he was able to survive the crash, they could too.
Prioritizing research on the Golden Disk over attacking the Maximals, Megatron has troops survey for Maximal survivals as well as the fortification of the base before any of such can happen. When Terrorsaur captures Nyx, Megatron has her tortured for information on how many Maximals survived the crash. When Nyx pokes at his fear of being forgotten by history, angering him, Dinobot and Tarantulas manage to convince her that she is purposefully withholding information to not slip that all the Maximals survived. Satisfied with this, he allows Tarantulas to dispose of her however she wishes. But the dishonorable torture ends up making Dinobot lose faith on the Predacon cause and turn against Megatron, trapping him and the rest of the Predacons on lockdown. Megatron laughs such setback over while admiring Dinobot's brilliance in executing such a trap, but makes it clear he will swiftly execute him the moment he can for his treachery.
Having the security system for the Darksyde reset, Megatron orders a search party for Dinobot, leading to the discovery of the Axalon on the other side of the valley. Announcing a plan to attack the Maximals, Megatron launches an assault to use as a distraction while Tarantulas sabotages the ship from within, while trying to kill the Maximals and Dinobot. While Megatron nearly succeeds in killing Optimus Primal, leader of the Maximal crew on Earth, Nyx manages to release Dinobot from the Maximals' holding cell to turn the tides as she throws Terroraur onto him to buy time to activate the shields and distract him. Upon noticing Dinobot was barred from entry thanks to the shields, Megatron uses this as a distraction to lower Dinobot's guard while Tarantulas attacks him from the back, leading to Megatron crippling Dinobot permanently even if he can still fight.
Upon analyzing the disk, he ends up uncovering a message from himself encoded on the Disk but was too corrupted before he could fully decrypt. Upon Blackarachnia's awakening upon Tarantulas' sabotage of the Maximal stasis pod network all across Earth, he keeps the reckless Terrorsaur in his place by making it clear the risks of causing too much damage that would undo the fabric of reality itself, and then has Terrorsaur and Waspinator dispatched to search for more fallen stasis pods.
Eventually, upon overhearing Terrorsaur's treacherous plans, Megatron swiftly beats him up and show who is in charge and nearly blasts him for his treachery, to which Tarantulas convinces Megatron to spare him to conserve resources. Then the Maximals launch an attack on the Darksyde, to which Megatron first faces Dinobot, noticing his weakness at his right-arm to quickly overwhelm him. Facing Optimus Primal, during their brawl, Optimus stabs his beast mode head right as it was about to shoot a laser blast, knocking him unconscious.
But in case the Golden Disk gets stolen, which Rattrap and Nyx do, Megatron had set up trip wires to trap the Maximals in a force field. Optimus then threatened to destroy the Disk and strand the 2 of them, to which Megatron agrees to let them go to get the disk. Realizing his repeated error of underestimating his enemies, he declares to the Predacons that their priority is to destroy the Maximals on Earth if they can even stand a chance to succeed on their other goals.
Upon the discovery of an aggression-enhancing energon, Megatorn weaponizes the substance to have the Autobots try destroying each other in their aggression, which ends up affecting Optimus. Eventually, while repairing the Darksyde from the previous Maximal attack, Waspinator informs him that a Maximal was cuahg tin one of their traps on the forest. As Megatron enters the forest, he ends up realizing it was a trap for him, to which Saberback, one of the Maximal protoforms that the Vok used to be one of their underlings, captures him. There, the other servants of the Vok come to demand their surrender, to which Megatron refuses as he demands an audience to the Vok leaders. To escape their capture, he and Optimus Primal form a temporary alliance to deal with the Vok threat.
Sending Waspinator, Skold and Blackarachnia to the Axalon, Megatron welcomes Rhinox and Dinobot to the Darksyde to come up with strategies to deal with the Vok. When ifnormed by Rhinox and Scorponok that the transwarp drive was locked, knowing he didn't authorize it, Megatorn immediately deduces Tarantulas' treachery, who betrayed both sides to the Vok. Tarantulas cgets captured for information, but Megatron ends up unprepared by Tarantulas' secret, the zombified Terrorsaur who Tarantulas used to be his attack dog. Reawoken just in time to fight the Vok's minions, when the Vok leaders decide it's time to destroy the Cybertronians on Earth, but the Axalon later fires beams with unspace energies to dissipate the Vok. Witht he threat over, Megatron uses this as an opportunity to finally kill Optimus, but gets hit by the unspace weapon. Since he wasn't an energy creature, Megatron was only transported to 114 cycles ahead of time. Now materialized, Megatron makes his way back to the Darksyde, intending to use the current situation as an advantage to finally win the Beast Wars.
