Stop hand

Do not say his name. I am leader of the Decepticons now.
~ Starscream, when Soundwave says Megatron would have wanted to harvest Earth's resources.

Megatron is the former leader of the Decepticons and the main antagonist of Skybound's Transformers comics. He had escaped from Cobra-La and to take back his role as leader from Starscream.

Appearance[]

Megatron's appearance is relatively unchanged from his usual evergreen G1 appearance, sporting his usual grey, red and black look. The only significant change being when we see him he has suffered severe scarring from his battle with Optimus Prime, losing his Fusion Cannon arm after the Autobot leader sliced it off, and right optic after Starscream blasted him off the Ark. He would go on to lose his left optic when Golobulus fired his spear through it.

History[]

At some stage during Cybertron's Great War Megatron became leader of the Decepticons, and waged war on the Autobot faction, bolstering warriors like Shockwave, Soundwave, Skywarp, Thundercracker, Reflector, The Constructicons and Combaticons and countless others to his side.

During the early years, Megatron encountered a bot named Ulchtar, who later called himself Starscream, a new inspired by his closest friend dying and calling "screaming among the stars", decided to align himself with Megatron, in one of his first missions, he helped Megatron massacre a small prisoner unit of Autobots, who refused to join the Decepticons. Transforming into a pistol, Ulchtar wielded him, and at first was reluctant to execute unarmed prisoners of war, but Megatron mentally swayed Starscream as his fuel comes from the destruction of his enemies and one who wields his weapon form. Swiftly Starscream obeyed and started slaying the prisoners.

For over 200 years, Megatron led the Decepticon armed forces and killed a vast amount of Autobots.

However Megatron's rule was not as just, as Starscream saw his motivates as a waste, even others like Astrotrain expressed a bigger hatred of the Decepticon leader, as Megatron at an unknown point (out of spite or willingly) killed Astrotrain's lover. This led Megatron to lock Astrotrain into the Nemesis.

Arrival To Earth[]

When the vast majority of the main Autobot forces planned to flee Cybertron, Megatron followed suit with the rest of the most powerful Decepticons and,# chased them in the Nemesis, successfully leading a small team into the Ark. Megatron battled with Optimus Prime just as the Autobot leader could see Earth in the distance. He bruised and battered Jazz and Wheeljack, slammed Cliffjumper against a wall and killed Brawn with his Fusion Cannon. He battled Optimus, taunting him and damaging his right optic. Optimus switches his right hand out for his Energon Axe, slicing off Megatron's right arm. (the very arm he'd go on to use once he ripped off his own right arm off after a skirmish with Skywarp.) Optimus kicks him towards the exit, where Starscream shoots him off the Ark after he asks for his help, severely damaging him and losing his right optic.

In his absence, it was Starscream that took over his position. When Starscream refused to accept the other Decepticons' suggestion for him to harvest Earth's Energon since he had the most Energon reserved, Soundwave said that it's what Megatron would have wanted. This rattled Starscream to such an extent that he yelled at Soundwave not to say his name.

Despite this, his presence was still known, as Optimus Prime who was injured in battle, was required by Ratchet to use the arm of his adversary Megatron, which allowed him to gain the upper hand and his killed three of Megatron's warriors in the series, one of which was Shockwave.

In the Cobra Commander Mini Series, it is revealed that Megatron is still alive held captive by Cobra Commander for answers. However, Megatron smiles after he learns that other energy signatures like his, the other Transformers are present on Earth, planning to escape.

Megatron succeeds in escaping, losing his left optic in the process, but not before regaining his left arm and therefore, his Energon Mace.

Decepticon Civil War[]

He later encounters Laserbeak, who was sent by Soundwave to find him, and temporarily sacrifices the Recordicon to use him as his way of seeing again, perching him on his left shoulder, with wires from Laserbeak attached to what was left of his optics, planning to reunite with his warriors.

Trivia[]

  • Since Megatron is presumably going to return this will continue a trend in Transformers media to build up to Megatron, as to not make him feel like a "cartoon villain" who loses all the time. Similar to Transformers: Prime Megatron and Transformers Animated Megatron. In the Cobra Commander series, it is shown that he is still alive held captive by Cobra-La. He later escapes and Starscream's flashback does show him to be the one who corrupted Starscream into what he is now.Returning in the main transformers comic as of issue 16.
  • This version seems extremely powerful, as not only was he able to keep the incredibly skilled Starscream in line (who killed Jetfire and Bumblebee) but we also see him successfully overpower and pin down Optimus Prime.
  • There are rumors that Megatron may posses a corruption ability to users, as hinted when he forces Starscream to slay Autobot prisoners, and in volumes 2 & 3, Optimus Prime has become more aggressive, traumatized by his actions, often looks at his new hand (Megatron's arm cannon) in stress and discomfort.
  • This Megatron is slightly merciful compared to others, examples like when he asked autobots to join his "kin", and keeping humans alive and keeping his word upon the humans revealing where one of his arms were. It is similar to Movie and Animated Megatron where he would keep lesser beings alive (some cases keeping them as pets), and working with them.
