NOTE: This page is only about the Transformers vs. The Terminator incarnation of Megatron. For other incarnations, see the disambiguation page.

Megatron is the main antagonist of the 2020 crossover comic book mini-series Transformers vs. The Terminator.

Much like his original counterpart from Generation One, he is the ruthless founder and leader of the Decepticons who believes in peace through tyranny, and wants to conquer the universe. Upon arriving on Earth, he restarted the war as well as beginning a genocide against humanity, coming at odds with the A.I. known as Skynet. He is also the archenemy of his former brother-in-arms Optimus Prime.

Biography[]

Most of his backstory played like his original cartoon counterpart. Upon reactivation in 1984, he and the other Decepticons killed the Autobots inside the Ark before they could be reactivated. With the Autobots dead, Megatron shifted his plan into conquering Earth, waging a brutal campaign against Skywatch that resulted in humanity being extinguished, leaving only their computerized defense network Skynet and it's creations, the Terminators, to continue the war. Though Skynet feined surrender to Megatron, it was actually using the time to scrounge together a time machine to retroactively win the war by killing all the Cybertronians on the Ark before they were reactivated.

In 2029, Megatron learned of the deception, and sent the Seekers and the Insecticons to attack the Omega Base and destroy Skynet's core. Before the A.I. was destroyed, a single T-800 was sent back to 1984, and arrived at the Ark just as Megatron was about to kill Optimus. Though inniatilly unimpressed by the android, he learned not to underastimate the enemy the hard way when the T-800 shot out one of his optics, promting him to order his troops to destroy the Terminator while he helps revive the other Decepticons. After Sarah Connor helped revive Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, Megatron ordered the Decepticons to retreat, but not before firing a shot at the Ark that damaged most of the still-dormant Autobots.

Regrouping in Oregon to fix Megatron's optic and gather intel on the enemy, the Decepticons learned of the existence of a nearby Cyberdyne Systems facility and, suspecting a link between the company and their robotic attack, Megatron ordered an attack, only to find out the facility contained no connection to the T-800. When the Autobots, the T-800, and Sarah arrived due to the news about the attack at Cyberdyne, Megatron engaged Optimus. Unharmed and unamused by the combined attack of the T-800 and Starscream, the Decepticon Leader grounded them both with a shot, leaving him open for the Autobot Leader to criple him. Upon becoming the last Decepticon standing and still fighting, he was caught by surprise when Arcee threw the T-800 towards the wound on his chest and into his spark chamber. The Terminator then fired at Megatron's spark, destroying it and blowing the tyrant apart from the inside. All he could do was hurl a few feeble curses at Optimus before finally succumbing to his wounds.

With the human authorities closing in, the Autobots were forced to leave Megatron's body behind, leaving his corpse to be recovered by Skywatch. From his body, the humans reverse-engineered a new version of Skynet, as well as being the template for the T-8000 models, where he and the T-800 that originally killed him were both ressurected as Skynet's A.I.

Quotes[]

Goodbye, Optimus Prime. You die as you lived... ignorant and useless.
~ Megatron about to kill Optimus Prime before the T-800 intervened.
I don't fear you. I don't fear your Autobots or the meatbags or the children's toys or Starscream. FOR I AM FEAR ITSELF!
~ Megatron's villainous breakdown upon becoming the last Decepticon standing.
This was supposed to be your death, Prime. Your death...
~ Megatron cursing Optimus after being blown apart from the inside by the T-800 - also his final words before his death.

Trivia[]

  • To hide spoilers from the comic, several of the images (see "Gallery" above) have shown Megatron working with Skynet's machines to make fans and general readers believe that the Decepticons would join forces with Skynet. It was only when the comic was published, that it was revealed the Decepticons are actually the ones who caused Judgement Day, marking this the first time Skynet and it's creations are portrayed as heroes.
  • Megatron's remains being reverse-engineered to create Skynet after his death and having his mind transferred to a man-made machine is likely a reference to his movie counterpart's fate where his own remains were used by KSI to build Galvatron in Transformers: Age of Extinction.
    • It is also a reference to the plot twists from Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, in which the former revealed that the remains of the T-800 sent back in time to kill Sarah were reverse-engineered by Cyberdyne to create Skynet, and the latter revealed that Judgement Day can never be averted, only delayed.
  • Because of the Terminator franchise being for older audiences and it's violence being preserved in the crossover, this version of Megatron is currently the only villain from the Transformers franchise to have the mature template on this wiki.
