Do not speak. Understand that you are simply casualties of war. A war of the Gods! For eon, a stalemate: two equal and opposite forces locked away from each other, the one exiled, the other hidden. Until now. The Seal of Primus will break and chaos will follow!
~ The Fallen's speech to Jetfire as he prepares to break the Seals and unleash Unicron.

Megatronus Prime, also known as the Fallen, is one of the overarching antagonists in the Transformers franchise, first debuting as the main antagonist of the 2003-2004 arc, The War Within: The Dark Ages in the Dreamwave comic series.

He was one of the original thirteen Primes created by Primus, on his war to safeguard existence from his twin brother, Unicron. Having grown a love for entropy and decay, Megatronus was seduced to evil and become Unicron's servant, turning against his creator and his fellow Primes, in which he is now only called the Fallen and dubbed the first Decepticon, slowly using his mastery over the dark sciences to manipulate his way to bring forth Unicron's wrath.

Biography[]

Past[]

Megatronus Prime was one of the Thirteen Primes created by the Lord of the Light, Primus, in order to preserve existence from primus' twin brother, Unicron the Chaos Bringer, who seeks to ravage through the universe until he is all that exists. Like all Primes, Megatornus' purpose was to ensure the orderly dissolution of all things after reality was ravaged by Unicron beyond repair to pave way for the next creation by Primus. However, the concept of destruction fascinated Megatronus too much and this slowly corrupted him, losing sight of his goals and the necessity of restraint. Investigating into the dark sciences, Megatronus went to Unicron, becoming his servant. Now corrupted as Unicron's servant, Megatronus attempted to destroy Primus to pave way for Unicron's wrath. However, this attempt failed and Megatornus, now dubbed the Fallen, fled to Unicron. However, Primus still found them and Primus exiles them to a dimension outside of the space-time continuum called the Unspace.

The War Within: The Dark Ages[]

When Optimus Prime pushes Megatron into a Space-Bridge and ends up destroying it, the Space Bridge accident weakened the barriers within reality and Unspace that frees the Fallen as he materializes and walks Cybertron again. Finally freed again, the Fallen seeks to initiate the Unbinding and bring forth the return of Unicron. But first, he spends years, if not millennia, manipulating the Autobot-Decepticon war, splintering them into several factions that are always in constant and escalating conflict with each other.

As the time of the "Unbinding", the Fallen enlists a trio of Decepticon outcasts called the Chaos Trinity, consisting of Bludgeon, Mindwipe and Bugly, tempting them to satisfy their desire to unlock the use of the dark sciences if they provide . Leading them all to the Well of the Allspark hidden inside Cybertron, explaining to his new minions that the Unbinding required four Transformers to function as "angles in the geometry of dissolution", naming Grimlock as the first angle. Beginning the construction of a spark draining machine within the Well of the Allspark in preparation of the Unbinding. However the Trinity got tired of the Fallen's praises and want a more tangible reward. The Fallen responds by grabbing Bludgeon's face and revealing a glimpse of what all he sought, promising if they help him he can open the door fully. With this, Bludgeon became much more inspired to do the Fallen's bidding and hunt down the targets.

While the Chaos Trinity orchestrate chaos drawing out the Protectobots to fight and be defeated by Devastator while Bludgeon sets out to lured in their 2 targets, Grimlock and Jetfire in one fell swoop, having ambushed Jetfire during a cross-territory meeting with Shockwave. However, Grimlock arrived earlier, to which the Fallen himself intervenes, catching Grimlock's energn sword with his bare hands. Having fought Grimlock and knocking him out with a huge blast of energy, before knocking out Jetfire too who summarised that the Fallen must be before the Golden Age, dragging them away to the well as he orders the Chaos Trinity to capture the third angle, leaving the fourth one to him. Breaking into the Autobot Headquarter to abduct Blitzwing from his holding cell, the Fallen shrugs off any of the Attacks by Jazz, Sunstreaker and Mirage and disintegrates their weaposn before knocking them all out.

With the Trinity's success in capturing Hot Spot, the 4 angles are ready and strapped into the Fallen's machine. The Fallen then explains to Jetfire on how they are all just casualties for a war among the gods as he begins. Beginning the ceremonious occasion, the Fallen drains their sparks and siphons their life forces to begin the Unbinding and break the Seal of Primus so he can finally awaken Unicron and cause the end of reality itself. However, a combined army of multiple factions defeat the Chaos Trinity and infiltrate the Fallen's operation. While the Fallen boasts on how they are all too late, Jetfire arranges for a forcefield to surround the seal, having known the true extent of the Fallen's plans, impressing him. However the Fallen lowers his guard as the radiating of hand as Primus himself, awoken after the breaking of the seal, unleashes a torrent of searing energy to reimprison him for his crimes.

Other Versions[]

Revenge of the Fallen film[]

Main article: The Fallen (Transformers Film Series)

The Fallen, formerly known as Megatronus Prime, is the overarching antagonist of the original continuity of the Transformers film series. Just like the original version, this version was one of the 13 Primes that was commiting acts of destruction for the larger good, which was to ensure the survival of Cybertron. However the Fallen later betrays the Prime code of destroying any planet with life in them out of mere contempt of organics. He then later founds the Decepticons after corrupting Megatron and use the Star Harvester to wipe out multiple stars and dominate the universe.

He was voiced by Tony Todd, well known for playing the Candyman in the franchise of the same name, and also played Dreadwing in Transformers: Prime.

Aligned Continuity[]

Main article: Megatronus (Aligned)

Megatronus, also known as The Fallen, is a major antagonist in the Transformers Aligned Continuity. He was one of the original Thirteen Primes created by Primus, before he was banished after killing Solus Prime and sealed in another dimension. Here he was also the namesake of Megatron himself.

In Robots in Disguise, he was voiced by Gil Gerard.

Transformers: Prime Wars trilogy[]

Main article: Megatronus Prime (Titans Return)

In this ambiguous sequel to the original Generation One television series, Megatronus appears as the main antagonist of the Prime Wars trilogy, serving as the overarching antagonist of Transformers: Combiner Wars, the overarching antagonist of Transformers: Titans Return and the main antagonist of Transformers: Power of the Primes. Unlike the mainstream version from the Dreamwave continuity, this version is comparatively more sympathetic.

He was voiced by Mark Hamill who is well known for voicing the Joker in the DC Animated Universe and Arkham video games.

Transformers One[]

Sentinel kills Megatronus Prime

Sentinel kills Megatronus Prime.

Megatronus Prime and the other Primes participated in the war against the Quintessons. He was the strongest and largest of them all. At a critical point in the war, the Primes, including Megatronus, moved to intercept a Quintesson high command meeting following a report from Sentinel, unaware that the aide had led them into a trap to be ambushed. Megatronus fought bravely against the Quintesson horde alongside his siblings, almost emerging victorious until Sentinel revealed his treachery and killed several of the Primes himself. Overpowered and subdued by his enemies, Megatronus was personally beheaded by a grandstanding Sentinel, who took Megatronus' transformation cog for himself after failing to obtain the Matrix of Leadership.

Megatronus was widely known as a heroic figure after his death, and merchandise was made of him including stickers of various rarity. The miner D-16 idolized Megatronus the most out of all the Primes for his mighty power, eagerly accepting when his friend Orion Pax gave him a rare sticker based on Megatronus's face. D-16 proudly wore the sticker on his shoulder, though it continued to sustain damage as he got involved in a mining accident, the Iacon 5000, and a dangerous adventure to the surface alongside Orion, B-127, and Elita-1. When D-16 was captured and taken to Sentinel's tower, the false Prime mocked him for his hero worship, revealing his possession of Megatronus's cog to D-16 and painfully scoring a crude rendition of Megatronus' face into the captive miner's chest. The sticker was destroyed in the process. After being freed by a coordinated assault by Orion, Elita, and the High Guard, D-16 killed the false Prime and ripped the cog from Sentinel's chest, installing it into his own and discarding the one he had previously received from Alpha Trion. As he did so, he renamed himself "Megatron" after his hero and idol. Megatronus's powerful cog granted Megatron new upgrades such as a triple-barrel rapid-fire fusion cannon, an arm-mounted machine gun on his left arm, and additional armor.

Later, after being exiled from Iacon by the newly christened Optimus Prime, Megatron fashioned a new insignia based on Megatronus Prime's face and branded it onto himself and his followers, officially forming the Decepticons.

Trivia[]

  • In the planned 6th issue of the third The War Within series, "Age of Wraith", the Fallen would've made his grand return after Shockwave broke the Seal for his cloning experiments, with his essence having escaped and corrupted Sunstorm and then Jetfire following the clone's destruction. However, due to Dreamwave shutting down due to legal problems before the issue could be published, the Fallen still remains imprisoned.
  • The Fallen was originally a multiverse singularity, in which all versions of the Fallen are the same version in every Transformer media as his avatars as only one Megatronus Prime existed across the entire multiverse, which often lead to conflicting backstories. However, like all other multiversal singularities in the entire Transformers franchise, this was all done away as a result of the Shrouding, making every version of the Fallen as simply different versions from each other.
  • In Transformers One, he was a heroic Prime who never fell to evil, dying fighting alongside his brothers and sisters when they are betrayed by Sentinel. However, he is still pivotal in the creation of the Decepticons. His T-Cog is what physically transformed D-16 into Megatron and his face came to be used as the Decepticon insignia.
