Sultan Mehmed II is the main antagonist of the 2014 action-horror film Dracula Untold. He was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, who used to be close to Vlad Țepeș, also known as the titular Dracula, but after demanding 1,000 boys to his Jannisary Corps, Vlad refuses, thus declaring war against the Ottoman Empire.

He was portrayed by Dominic Cooper.

Biography[]

Background[]

Many years before the events of the film, when Mehmed II's father was the sultan, he met Vlad Tepes III, the prince of Wallachia and Transylvania, who was a royal hostage and was trained to be a soldier in the empire's elite Janissaries corps. During this time, Mehmed and Vlad became close and were like brothers. At some point in time, Vlad left the army and returned home and became king, while Mehmed succeeded his father as Sultan.

Dracula Untold[]

During this time, Mehmed II has begun preparations to invade Europe. Early in the film, he sends a contingent to Wallachia and Transylvania to recruit a thousand boys into the Janisarry Corps. Vlad refuses to allow this and visits Mehmed at his camp, hoping to convince him. When Mehmed refuses, Vlad offers himself in place of the boys, stating he can fight as well as a thousand men. Despite agreeing with Vlad's statement, Mehmed refuses and also demands Vlad's son, Ingeras, then sends an emissary to bring Ingeras to him. However, the emissary and the soldiers are killed by Vlad. Later on, Mehmed sent 1,000 soldiers to kill everyone in Castle Dracula, but not after Vlad returned, now with the powers of a Vampire, which allowed him to single-handedly defeat Mehmed's army. However, because of the following destruction, Vlad and his followers were forced to evacuate to the Cozia Monastery for safety.

Deducing the fact that Vlad became a vampire, he then sent all of his army to the Monastery. However, the soldiers are actually a decoy force, allowing a handful of Turks to infiltrate the monastery, kill many of the inhabitants and kidnap Îngeraș. Mirena tried to defend her son, but she was pushed from the edge of the monastery wall. Despite his superhuman speed, Vlad cannot reach her in time, while Mehmed evilly smirks at the sudden events before leaving to his camp with Îngeraș.

Back at the Monastery, Vlad turned everybody who survived the attack into a vampire and then traveled to Mehmed's camp and began killing every Turk. When Vlad went into Mehmed's tent, Mehmed had covered the entire floor with silver coins and had bags of silver coins hung up. As Vlad and Mehmed begin fighting, Vlad's continuous exposure to the silver causes him to be severely weakened, eventually giving Mehmed the upper hand. As Vlad lies on the ground severely beaten, Mehmed breaks off a sharp piece of wood with the intent of driving it through Vlad's heart, since in Mehmed's own words, it's a "fitting end for Lord Impaler." As Mehmed strikes, Vlad grabs Mehmed's arm to try and stop him. With what strength Vlad has left, he turns into a flock of bats, takes the sharpened wood and stabs Mehmed in the chest with it, saying that his name is no longer Vlad, but "Dracula, Son of the Devil." Dracula then bites Mehmed's neck and drains him completely of blood before letting his dead body drop to the ground.
