Mel and May are the main antagonists in the foreign film Robinson Crusoe, or as called in North America, The Wild Life. They are a husband and wife pair of stray cats whose main goal is to kill Robinson Crusoe.
They are voiced by Debi Tinsley and John Doucette in the English dub.
Mel is the most dim-witted and cowardly of the duo while May is more sadistic and smart. They are first seen on Crusoe's boat where May orders Mel to find some food for her. Mel obliges and sneaks on board to steal a chicken, but is halted by Crusoe's pet dog, Aynsley. When May gets on deck, Crusoe sends them back below, warning them to lay off their chickens. After the escapade, May swears to Mel that they will unleash their wrath on Crusoe in revenge for his treatment on them.
During a storm, Robinson Crusoe and Aynsley fall below deck, prompting the cats to attack them in retaliation. The cats, dog, and man end up washing ashore on an island only inhabited by a small band of animals. The cats escape from the ship and notice Crusoe's new friendship with the parrot Mac, so they prey upon the paranoia of the animals and lie to them, claiming that Crusoe killed Mac; prompting them to plan to send Crusoe to Curse Island, a small rock located a bit far from the island inhabited by bugs.
However, their plan fails and soon, Mel and May end up on Curse Island where May states that in time, they will have revenge. She gives birth to a bunch of kittens who soon grow up. They are deserted on the island for a while before the wreckage of the ship provides a pathway to the island. They attack Crusoe, Mac, and the animals, but even when severely outnumbered, the animals manage to beat them off. The fight ends when a watchtower made by Crusoe and the animal's collapses and the cats are soon taken in by pirates.
