| ~ Melissa snapping, causing Stu to dump her. |
Melissa is a minor antagonist in the 2009 comedy film The Hangover, the first installment in the trilogy of the same name.
She was portrayed by Rachael Harris, who also played Alice Westergren in Monk 2005, who also played Alice Westergren in Monk 2005,
Role in the film[]
Melissa is Stu Price's abusive unfaithful, bitchy and domineering shrew of a girlfriend. She controls Stu with an iron fist and is implied to have physically abused him as well. She refuses to have sex with him and even forbids him from kissing her, but Stu says the reason for that's due to the fact that she had various issues with men. Despite this, she cheated on him with a bartender in the past (a recurring gag being that nobody can really remember what her secret lover's occupation actually was, confusing him with a bellhop or waiter among other things, and that being the doormat that he was, Stu gave her a free pass for cheating on him) showing how badly his view of Melissa is. She wants full control of the relationship and is against Stu having any say in it.
She was first seen bossing Stu around while he is packing his bag for the trip. She demands him to call her immediately after he checks into the hotel as opposed to the time when he was at a conference in Phoenix, Arizona when she revealed her frustration in waiting for two hours to receive a call from him. Melissa expresses her disdain for bachelor parties and wishes that his friends were as mature as Stu, only for her to sarcastically tell him to leave once Alan, Phil and Doug arrive to pick him up for their trip. Before he leaves, he attempts to kiss her but she refuses once again. Due to her controlling behavio, Stu had no choice but to deceive her about his whereabouts such as going to a bed and breakfast in Napa Valley, California, when really he went to Las Vegas, Nevada for Doug's bachelor party. He planned to propose to her at Doug's wedding, which Phil discouraged due to her abusive nature.
During Doug and Tracy's wedding reception at the end of the movie, Melissa confronted when she assumed he was avoiding her. Stu tried lightening the mood by introducing her to Alan, but his efforts were to no avail. She ignored Alan and kept on asking stu multiple questions such as why his tooth was missing and demanded to know why he hadn't returned any of her calls. The last straw came when she said told Stu that she called the bed and breakfast in Napa after he left the house with his friends and they said to her that they had no record of Stu and his friends checking in. She snaps and Stu finally admits to her that they went to Las Vegas for Doug's bachelor party. Stu finally stands up to Melissa, resulting in a fight and he furiously ends their relationship, to the delight of himself and his friends. Her last scene has her being nasty to Alan, who's polite to her.
She was briefly mentioned again in the sequel by Phil.
