Biography[]
Early Life[]
Born in Roswell, New Mexico, Melissa Miller became a conspiracy theorist as an adult, being a member of the "Truthers" Movement and even hosting a podcast called "Truth Notices", where she discussed her beliefs in various conspiracy theories, such as the Moon Landing being faked and the idea of school shootings such as the Sandy Hook shooting being a hoax and a conspiracy to take away American's second amendment rights. However, she also hid a darker side to her personality, as she was secretly a narcissistic psychopath who would not hesitate to kill or manipulate others if provoked to.
She eventually entered into a relationship with another truther, Carl Lee. Keeping the relationship a secret as the local truther community can be "gossipy", they covered any digital evidence of the relationship up to the point that Technical Analyist Garcia of the BAU was unable to find any. Carl purchased a personalised copy of the classic novel Catcher in the Rye from another conspiracy theorist named Carl Orci with a personalised dedication to Melissa that he intended to give to her as a gift. However, before he could he discovered Melissa was having an affair with another truther by the name of Doug Downey, a fact he had suspected for some time. When he confronted her about it when she visited him in his home, Melissa took one of Carl's many hidden guns, and shot Carl in the throat in a rage.
Now forced to conceal her impulsive act of murder, Melissa acted quickly to pass the death off as a conspiracy in which law enforcement was trying to conceal the truth about Carl's death. First, she had a fellow truther named Gary Hiles keep the bullet and shell casing from the murder in his possession, using his distrust of law enforcement and government authority to her advantage. When Brian Behar, another truther, died coincidentially while cleaning his aquarium, the BAU of the FBI was called in to conduct an equivocal death investigation and later called the Truthers to a meeting to give them their working profile. Seeing this as yet another opportunity to build on her conspiracy cover-up, Melissa slipped the gun into Doug's pocket, which was undectected due to the broken metal detector.

Trivia[]
- Melissa may have been inspired by Arthur Seldom and Beth Eagleton, two conspirators trying to disguise murder by lying the same is true with accidental deaths, which in turn result in more deadly consequences out of their control.
