Menthos was a minor antagonist of the french comic book series Les Légendaires/The Legendaries, appearing in the spin-off series Origins of the Volume 4: Gryfenfer as well as in a flashback of Volume 7 of the main series. He is known as the richest man in the city, Eisleymos as well as a cruel monslaves trainer that has trained monslaves such as Samael and Gryfenfer with only the only the wish to grow his economy.
Appearance[]
Menthos is a tall man of muscular build with long grey hair, brown colored skin and has a headband around his head that sometimes has a jade on it. He has been seen wearing some sort of medieval attire that consist of metal shoulder pads connected with chains, a red cape with a blue stone in the middle and other armor pieces and turquoise clothes on his torso and a robe of the same color.
Personality[]
Mentho is a very selfish and cruel man with the main desire of making moneys, collecting and training monslaves to make them stronger for his own purpose to make him rich. He has also been seen to spend time with several womens during his free times.
Biography[]
Menthos first started his career as a monslave trainer when he bought a newborn boy of the name Samael who has suffered from a mysterious malediction. For nearly 16 years straight the boy has bee trained under Menthos, making Samael as one of the most famous monslaves of the city. This contributed greatly to Menthos’ economy and made him extremely wealthy thanks to the money that he gained from the fight that Samael won. Once in a time he will regularly come to visit a man named Folh-Klor who keeps all sort of creatures and monsters that are mainly being used as monslaves. Although in the past he has bought numerous of them, but none of them have ever reached the same power as Samael. One day Menthos receives a message from Folh-Klor, telling him to come at his place that he received a new monslave, a Jaguarians. Despite doubting him, he still joins him and to his surprise he wasn’t lying in his message, to which Mentos immediately bought him for a greater price the usually since Jaguarians are very rare species. On his way home Menthos attaches him to his mount.
Upon returning to Eisleymos where he lives, the man explains to the young boy that the city and the lair is filled with criminals and that is better to have him hided in a secret place. He chose to put him inside the same room as Samael. The next morning, the young Jaguarian is immediately put into training. The boy however did not possessed any wills to fight, leading the men to lose his patience and continuously hit the boy with his rope, until Samael stops him and suggest that he will be in charge of training him. During his conversation with him they decided to name him Gryfenfer, as “Gryf” means claws in french which is what the boy possessed.
During this time he is seen having a battle again another monslave under the name of Galab’ru. Samael manages to win the fight despite the fact that his opponent had an advantage of having a much greater size than Samael. After days of training, the first battle for Gryfenfer is about to begin. He is facing the monslave Cayoya. In result Gryfenfer however loses the battle. Deeply humiliated by the audience, Menthos he decides to throw Gryfenfer inside a hole, that is used where he puts his unwanted or useless monslaves in it. Samael however prevent his action and suggest to spare him in to fight the monslave Dasyatis.
When the combat finished against the monster, it resulted as a terrible massacre. Gryfenfer upon arriving he sees Samael stabbed in the stomach by the Dasyatis’ tentacles. Horrified but furious, Gryfenfer charges at the monster and sends him a blow in the face, wanting to kill him but he is however interrupted by Menthos. Angered by the hit he received in the face, Asyatis also wants to fight back, but Menthos tell his owner, The Big Mongo that the fight was violent enough for today. Afterwards he tells the Jaguarian that garbages belongs to the trashs and is thrown into the hole. That night as Menthos takes a visit to the boy, he is asked to be trained as hard as possible in order for one day to get his revenge for Samael. For many years, Gryfenfer becomes stronger and defeats numerous other monslaves. At some time he learns about new announcing that the enemy he swore to kill is now dead and killed by the Dark Sorcerer Darkhell, but decides to not tell Gryfenfer. One night a mysterious women with long purple hairs decided to frees him from his cell and reveals to him about the death of Dasyatis herself. Causing the Jaguarian to break into Menthos’ room where he was seen having fun with womens. He is grabbed by the neck and is asked whether it is true that his Dasyatis is dead, to which Menthos admit it.
Gryfenfer then escapes from the window. Menthos screams at him that he is gonna send the Night Hunters at him to bring his head back, a group of hunters that hunts down monslaves that had escaped. After a considerable number two of years had elapsed, the Jaguarian was finally announced to be found somewhere in the Lovinah mountains. A battle takes place as Gryfenfer saves an adventure from a from giant creatures and is confronted by Samael who murders his ally to fight Gryfenfer. Samael is soon after defeated and killed by the Jaguarian.
It was revealed to be Samael who becamed one of the hunter and that he had gone crazy due to the poisons that he received when Dasyatis stabbed him, before killing him, causing Menthos to scream out of terror. As his men rushes into his room, his body is seen nailed down on the wall with several stone spikes stabbed across his body and notices that he tried to write the letters “Sa” (for Samael) with his blood before passing away.

- There is actually two version of Menthos’ first meeting with Gryfenfer:
The one told in the Volume 3 of the Origins spin-off, is when he met him at Folh-Klor’s place, doubting about that he had a Jaguarian.
The one told in the main series of the Volume 7 was that Menthos wasn’t aware of the presence of Gryfenfer was among Folh-Klor’s monslaves.
