Mentor is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Archon) of Space 1999, serving as the main antagonist of the first episode Metamorph. He is the individual who groomed the last Psychon named Maya after her planet was destroyed. Although guiding her is far from his true goals. In actuality he wants to use a brain device to manipulate matter.
Biography[]
As the Alphan crew arrives at a new planet they encounter a weapon that starts shooting at them. As they evade the mentor communicates with them pointing out how they come with armed weapons to his territory. Further condemning such outsiders that brought destruction to the Psychon homeworld. Once reaching a truce they plan to meet each other while relations are quite tense.
The meeting takes place with some Alphan fighters being injured in the altercation, therefore needing healing. Anyhow, then the Mentor chats with Maya who is his daughter. She is playful with him and he comments how Maya should take molecular transformation more seriously. Knowing they will honor the meet he soon prepares his ship.
Although the Mentor deceives them and attracts them with magnetic influence towards an empty ship. The Mentor then excuses himself and welcomes them to Psychon before claiming their crewmates are feverish. Meanwhile a human Torens is being tortured on a brain transfer device.
As they progress through the planet there are aliens inflicted by the device and essentially psychologically damaged. With force fields preventing them from harming the elusive mentor. While Maya is oblivious to her father's actions the Mentor is strapping more Alphans to the device. While him and Koenig are alone he describes his plan. The machine is the Psyche made from Psychons that runs of energy from intelligent lifeforms. The brain dead lifeforms can then serve as slaves. This is all to restore Psychon to its former glory.
He then introduces how it can remold matter itself and his depravity unfolds. Soon he threatens and plans on destroying the moon as a punishment for Koenig's retaliation. Enraged about an eagle bomber being sent he commands Maya to end them. The latter believes the Mentor is unjust and they destroy his facility. As everything breaks down he reveals he never wanted to commit evil and pleads Koenig to save Maya. Therefore Maya joins them on their adventures.
