| ~ Mephisto after the heroes sacrificed Nightcrawler or Jean Grey. |
Mephisto is the overarching antagonist in the 2006 superhero video game Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, the first installment of the Ultimate Alliance series.
He is the father of Blackheart and the archenemy of Ghost Rider, having transformed Johnny Blaze into the Spirit of Vengeance as he made a vain attempt to save his stepfather from dying in a motorcycle accident. Mephisto also has Doctor Doom's mother's spirit held prisoner in his Realm, which is basically Hell in all but name.
He was voiced by Fred Tatasciore.
Biography[]
In the game's present day, Mephisto made a deal with Doctor Doom to give him the Twilight Sword in exchange for the mutant teleporter Nightcrawler, taking the X-Man to his Realm afterwards. When the heroes arrive at Mephisto's Realm to rescue Nightcrawler, Blackheart and his minions quickly defeat Jean Grey before caging both X-Men over the Infinity Vortex, thus forcing the X-Men's fellow heroes to choose which one to save, and which one to let fall to their doom. After defeating Blackheart and saving the chosen X-Man, the heroes continue forward and battle Mephisto, who then revives the fallen X-Man's astral spirit as a superpowered slave, unable to leave Mephisto's Realm.
Although the heroes are victorious, it is not without grave cost, as the possessed X-Man sacrifices what little energy they have left to defeat Mephisto. Unfortunately, however, the possessed X-Man's sacrifice was all for nothing as Mephisto is still alive and well, ready to wreak a tremendous amount of destruction upon the heroes' dimension should said heroes fail to locate the damaged Ultimate Nullifier at Castle Doom later on.
Furthermore, no matter which X-Man was sacrificed to Mephisto, this choice will have grave future consequences regardless. If Nightcrawler was sacrificed, Mystique will sneak into the X-Mansion under cover of night and vent her frustration upon Professor X for the death of her son, causing Xavier to lie in a coma for months before dying, after which the X-Men disband forever. If Jean Grey was sacrificed, she will return to Earth in the form of the Dark Phoenix, taking vengeance upon those who did not save her.

Trivia[]
- Despite only appearing in one mission and during Uatu the Watcher's ending narration, Mephisto is arguably the greater-scope villain of the entire game since he gave Doctor Doom the Twilight Sword to defeat Odin with and then steal his powers, nearly tearing the fabric of reality beyond repair with such unrestrained usage that way.
