~ Mercy Graves to Lena Luthor.
Mercy Graves is a supporting antagonist in Season 4 of the CW television series Supergirl.
Mercy was a human extremist who worked with Agent Liberty to purge National City of its alien inhabitants including the ones living on Earth peacefully, by exposing United States President Olivia Marsdin as an alien and getting rid of Supergirl, succeeding in the former, but failing in the latter. She is also the late older sister of Otis Graves and the former close companion/right-hand of Lex Luthor.
She was portrayed by Rhona Mitra who also played Kit McGraw in Nip/Tuck and Erma in Game Over, Man!.
Mercy once headed Lex Luthor's security detail at Luthor Corp, back when he was CEO. According to Lena Luthor, Lex and Mercy were very close until Lex's obsession to destroy Superman drove Mercy to abandon her position at the company. The relationship was further tarnished when she testified against Lex, contributing to his incarceration.
Later, both Mercy and her brother Otis went to work for Lex's mother Lillian Luthor at Cadmus to hunt down and eliminate all extraterrestrials under the protection of the United Stated government. Months after Supergirl and her allies defeated Reign, the siblings teamed up with Ben Lockwood to pick up where Cadmus left off in the wake of the organization's collapse and Lillian's arrest.
Together, Mercy, Otis and Lockwood form the Children of Liberty, an anti-alien hate group and planned an attack on President Marsdin's peace summit to mark the second anniversary of the Alien Amnesty Act. Supergirl saves the President and manages to capture Otis, while Mercy escapes and releases footage of the President shifting into her alien form to the public. She later breaks into L-Corp and ends up fighting her old friend Lena and began working with a rogue D.E.O. agent.
Shortly after escaping D.E.O. custody Mercy poisons Earth's atmosphere with Kryptonite to kill Supergirl, but she survives thanks to Lena's anti-kryptonite suit. To rectify their failure, Mercy and Otis ambush Supergirl at a carnival, but are both killed by a Hellgrammite they had previously captured and brainwashed into attacking innocent civilians. Otis is later revived as Metallo, while Mercy remains dead.
Personality[]
Mercy was a radical and ruthless hypocrite, whose xenophobic hatred of aliens led her to turn the people of Nation City against the alien community demeaning them as "filthy roaches" infesting our world. She strongly believed only humans should be the superior race and considered individuals that disagreed with her views as "earth traitors" and was more than willing to kill them as well. Mercy was also an expert at manipulating others and convincing them to join her side. This is shown when she manipulated D.E.O. agent Raymond Jensen into betraying Alex Danvers by playing on his fear once the truth of President Marsdin's status as an alien had been outed to the world.
