Merg Vol was an Elite commander serving as leader of the rogue Covenant fleet and the main antagonist of Halo: Spartan Assault.

Past[]
Little is known about Merg Vol but he was once a member of the original Covenant presumably as a shipmaster during the Human-Covenant War. After the war, Merg defied the peace treaty and manage to form his own Covenant Remnant with his brother, Parg, by his side. At some point, he discovered a location of the planet, Draetheus V and learned of its moon X50, being a Forerunner artifact designed to be capable of both creating and vaporizing planets thus orchestrates the invasion to destroy the UNSC.
Halo: Spartan Assault[]
Merg arrives to the planet where he began the invasion. Despite the losses by the hands of the Spartans-IVs, Davis and Palmer, Merg Vol's omgoing battle resulted in many UNSC casaulties and decimating the UNSC Navy in orbit before landing on X50. Vol somehow manage to gain access and activated the artifact to target and fire directly at Dratheus V. Under Merg's control, X50's weapon system begins to destabilize reconstructing the planet below, leading to a full UNSC evacuation. Though Davis managento shut down the artifact to put a stop to Merg's plans, Draetheus V was already destroyed.
During the final stages of the conflict, Merg Vol ordered all his forces to stop Palmer from starting his execution, but Palmer pushes through to execute him. Eventually, he faces against Sarah Palmer in single combat at the foot of the artifact. During the first phase, he will throw an unlimited amount of Plasma Grenades at her while using a Plasma Pistol. Losimg some health, he heads to the artifact's controls where he duplicates three holograms of himself to fool Palmer and regenerate his health after each wave depending how much time Palmer has to prevent his health from increasing. In his second phase, he activates his active camouflage and uses his Energy SWords to fight. In his final phase,he uses a hardlight shield to prevent Palmer from shooting at him but vulnerable to Plasma Grenades. By the time Palmer defeats him, Merg becomes weakened and collapses from his injuries preventjng him for pulling any more strings he has for her. Palmer later uses her magnum to execute Merg, killing him and avenging Davis.
Following his death, Merg's fleet met its defeat and destruction throughout the course of the battle, bring an end to his Remnant Sect. Despite his sect's collapse, the surviving forces including Parg joined the Storm Covenant to exact their revenge on the UNSC.
