Merkabah

Merkabah in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse.

I am the Lord's chariot... the seraph Merkabah. You Unclean Ones, who mistakenly believe that chaos is an expression of free will... Let us see Armageddon through to the end, for a new millennium of order.
~ Merkabah, Shin Megami Tensei IV

Merkabah is a major character in Shin Megami Tensei IV and Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. He appears as one of the final bosses in Shin Megami Tensei IV and a major boss in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. Merkabah is the Chariot of God and the leader of the angels. He seeks to use the Yamato Perpetual Reactor to annihilate Tokyo and everyone in it. Like other high-ranking angels, Merkabah is categorized as a Herald demon.

Merkabah is formed when Jonathan fuses with the Four Archangels Gabriel, Michael, Raphael, and Uriel. In Shin Megami Tensei IV, if the player makes it to the Law route, then Merkabah will become a guest ally and fight alongside you in the battle against Lucifer. If the player makes it to the Neutral route or the Chaos route, then the player makes their way through Purgatorium to fight Merkabah. After Merkabah is defeated, the player will then move on to fight Lucifer or go to the roof of Mikado Castle to see the world of chaos they created. It all depends on which route the player ended up on.

In Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, Merkabah plays a different role. When the Divine Powers start attempting their salvation, Merkabah and Lucifer agree to a ceasefire and work together to defeat the Divine Powers. After Krishna is seemingly defeated, Merkabah ends the ceasefire and declares Armageddon. When the player reaches the Yamato Perpetual Reactor room, Merkabah is the first target. Merkabah gives the player a choice to either join Merkabah or fight him. If the player joins Merkabah, they'll be on the Law route, which leads to one of the game's early endings. The player will fight Lucifer and then after Lucifer's defeat, Merkabah will have the player use the Yamato Perpetual Reactor to destroy Tokyo and everyone in it, including himself and Merkabah. If the player chooses to fight Merkabah then the player will fight and defeat Merkabah.

Merkabah is fought again in the 2nd Brane of YHVH's Universe immediately after a fight with Azrael and Aniel. Later after that, Merkabah and Lucifer are revealed to be two halves of an even greater demon: Satan.
