Mermaids are major antagonists of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. They are the merfolk of Isla Sirena serving as the agents of the Sirens (mythology) They use their chant to seduce and kill anyone who they see Greek Mythology.

During the quest for the Fountain of Youth, Blackbeard and his crew ventured to Whitecap Bay to capture a mermaid for the Profane Ritual.
Scrum had no choice but to sing My Jolly Sailor Bold to draw the attention of the mermaids, and Tamara, one of the mermaids came after being attracted by the song. As she continually sung Scrum's song, the other mermaids appeared.
While the beauty of the mermaids fascinanted the sailors, Tamara lured Scrum underwater in which he is then terrified to see the true form of Tamara.
As the attack occured, the mermaids used their seaweed-made whips to pull the sailors into the water. Blackbeard magically guided the Queen Anne's Revenge to use the Greek fire to fend off mermaids. Jack Sparrow managed to set an explosion to the lighthouse, which scared the mermaids away.
Another mermaid Marina spared Jack, but slapped him.
The crew managed to capture a wandering mermaid, which they later named Syrena.
The next day, the mermaids returned to attack the HMS Providence, dragging it and the crew onboard to the depths.
Appearance[]
The Mermaids are depicted as hybrid beings of a female human and fish with long and flowing, and skin flecked with scales. From the waist down, however, a mermaid was comprised of a long, shimmering scaly fish-like tail. Further undermining their conventional beauty, mermaids hid sharp, fang-like teeth in their mouths.
