Please, I have a daughter! No!
~ Mesmer's last words.

Charles, better known as Mesmer, is a minor antagonist in the Amazon Prime TV series The Boys, which is based on the controversial comic book series of the same name. Originally a child star, Mesmer is a telepathic supe who attempted to regain his fame by betraying the Boys, which would cause his downfall.

He was portrayed by Haley Joel Osment in the present day, and Aram Avakian portrayed the character when young. Osment also also voiced Vanitas in Kingdom Hearts II, Vanitas Remnant in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, and Zexion disguised as Sora in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.

Biography

Past

Charles, also known as "Mesmer", was a famous child celebrity who could read people's mind, and was the main star of a tv series named "The Mesmerizer" where he was a psychic policeman. During a period of his fame, he was a member of Teenage Kix, a teenage based superhero team that consisted of A-Train and Popclaw. Mesmer would however lose his popularity, and lost an opportunity to have a position in Vought-International when he decided to use his power for insider trading. Years before the event of the series, Charles had a relationship with a woman named Tina and they had a daughter named Cleo, but would custody for unknown reasons. Though he wanted to reunite with Cleo, he became more focused on trying to regain his fame, and only made his living by going to conventions to sign DVD's of "The Mesmerizer".

Season One

When the Boys needed information on who the Female was, Mother's Milk negotiated with Mesmer to give the Female a "reading session" in return that he could visit Cleo. During the session, Mesmer revealed the identity of the Female as a member of a terrorist organization, and was brought to the United States and injected with Compound V. The Boys realized that Vought-International were planning on making super-powered terrorists to fight, and to have the government prioritize supes into the military. Afterward, Mesmer betrayed the Boys by approaching Homelander to make a deal. Charles gave him photos of the Boys so he could get a job at Vought, but Homelander left without promising him a position there. Mesmer's betrayal resulted in Vought learning who was behind the bugging of the Seven, and target the Boys and their families.

Realizing that the Boys have probably found out who exposed them, Mesmer attempted to escape at a subway station, but was cornered by Billy Butcher. In the bathroom, Butcher revealed that he planted a tracker on him in case that he betrayed the Boys, and proceeds to assault him. During the assault, Mesmer saw Bucher's memories and learned of Becca Butcher's disappearance years ago. Mesmer attempted to convince Butcher to let him live so he could help him find his wife, but Butcher killed Mesmer by bashing his face into a sink.
