~ Metal Sonic in Sonic Generations.

The "Classic" counterpart of Metal Sonic is the secondary antagonist of the Classic era of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.

He is an earlier version of his modern self from an alternate timeline created by Dr. Eggman during the events of Sonic Generations.

Biography[]

Sonic CD[]

Once Sonic arrives at Little Planet, he meets a hedgehog girl named Amy Rose, this is kidnapped by Metal Sonic in Collision Chaos Act 1, from this event, Metal would wait in Stardust Speedway Act 3 until Sonic arrives, to fight a race, in which he would lose, being destroyed.

Knuckles' Chaotix[]

Dr. Ivo Robotnik rebuilds Metal Sonic again, Knuckles, once all the acts are finished, will meet Metal Sonic, this one, will connect to a mechanism, in which he will wait for Knuckles to throw the Chaotix's companion to the bumper, giving a random result that can be traps that Metal activates or destroy a monitor.

Once defeated, Metal will arrive broken down to the Doctor, who uses the last remaining ring to transform Metal Sonic into a colossal version of this (Metal Sonic KAI), whose only way to defeat is by possessing all the chaos rings, which will lead to the good ending (Metal Sonic KAI can be defeated without the rings, but this leads to a credits cinematic in which he is destroying everything, making it no matter what you did in that battle).

Sonic Generations[]

In Sonic Generations, Classic Metal Sonic is a rival boss. While waiting for Sonic in the Sonic CD timeline, he enters the limbo created when Dr. Eggman used the Time Eater to break the timeline, and challenges Classic Sonic to a race like battle over the purple Chaos Emerald. In the Handheld version, Metal Sonic engages in a race across the Casino Night. In the Console version, they enter the bad future of Stardust Speedway from Sonic CD and battle while running across a crumbling path, and the fight ends with Classic Sonic kicking Metal Sonic into the air, and he explodes. He can still be found in the White Space and will offer a challenge if you approach him. (much like every stage and boss in the game).

Sonic Mania[]

Metal Sonic once again serves as a boss in Stardust Speedway Zone. After the heroes destroy a projection of Metal Sonic at the end of the second act, the real Metal Sonic appears to challenge them. He will try to attack the player as they race through the level, until they reach a large machine that Metal Sonic will plug himself into. The machine will start producing miniature Silver Sonic's to charge at the player while Metal Sonic fires harmful energy projectiles. Knocking the spinning Silver Sonic's into Metal Sonic will soon damage the machine enough to destroy it, but Metal Sonic will continue to pursue the heroes before reaching the battles next phase.

Dr. Eggman will give Metal Sonic the Phantom Ruby and the robot uses its power to transform into a monstrosity called Giga Metal. In this form, Metal Sonic will chase the heroes, breaking apart the floor as he does so, while also launching bombs to slow them down and firing powerful energy beams from his mouth. However, his Giga Metal form is eventually shattered after losing the Phantom Ruby, and Metal Sonic falls from view defeated.

Originally, the final phase didn't involve Giga Metal or the Phantom Ruby. Instead, a moving wall of spikes would appear behind the player, and they would have to keep ahead of it while trying to defeat Metal Sonic. The battle was eventually changed after an update.

Sonic Mania Adventures[]

In the Adventures mini-series, set after the events of Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces, Metal Sonic has been sent by Robotnik to collect the Chaos Emeralds, four of which are already in Robotnik's possession. It tracks the white emerald to Ray the Flying Squirrel, who's looking for Mighty the Armadillo. Metal tries to attack Ray but is stopped by Mighty, who is revealed to have the white emerald. Metal takes Ray hostage and forces Mighty to give it the emerald. After that, Metal flies back to Robotnik's fortress.

Later, Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails enter the fortress to take Robotnik's chaos emeralds but are quickly trapped by the scientist. Then Metal takes the green and red emeralds from the duo, which makes all seven chaos emeralds in Robotnik's power. Metal then uses them to power itself up and face the hedgehog, who gets help from Tails, Mighty and Ray. Thanks to Tails hacking into Robotnik's system, the heroes are able to trap Metal and take the emeralds from it. However, Robotnik had also stolen the Master Emerald from Knuckles earlier and gave Metal the opportunity to power itself up again with it, only to be punched by the enraged echidna who had come to take it back. The punch blew Metal away, along with Robotnik.

In the holiday special, it is shown that, after falling in the jungle, Robotnik abandons Metal and goes back home alone. Heartbroken, Metal remains on the ground for months until next winter, ignoring all of his surroundings after he is found by Amy Rose, who saves Metal from a falling tree despite being afraid of it. However, the robot refuses to attack the hedgehog and even move, causing her to take pity on it and take it back to Robotnik's lair, putting a bow on its head, a flower on its hand and presenting it as a present from the scientist, who decides to take Metal in again.

Appearance[]

Metal Sonic was created in the image of Sonic the Hedgehog and is thus mostly built of blue metal. He has a yellow circular depression in his chest with a black center, mirroring the peach skin on Sonic's chest. His head has metal fins resembling Sonic's quills and a pair of triangular "ears." Metal Sonic has a muzzle, shoulder plates, upper arms, legs, and fingers made out of silvery metal. His palms are black, while the backs of his hands are square yellow plates. His forearms and lower legs are blue metal like his head and torso, and he has red feet with white stripes designed to resemble Sonic's shoes. To simulate the hedgehog's eyes, he has monitors with cameras behind them, giving them a red sclera.

Following the Ifrit incident, Metal Sonic received a slight update in design which made him taller and gave him a more ellipsoid torso. He also gained more detailed hands, a brilliant blue paint job, joints on his arms and legs, and sharper eyeholes.

Personality[]

Like his modern counterpart, Classic Metal Sonic has a fierce arch-rivalry with Sonic the Hedgehog and thinks of himself as the superior between them. He is always ready to race against his organic doppelganger while also attempting to eliminate him, and is willing to continuously pursue Sonic until he achieves victory. Metal Sonic is also shown to be quite intelligent, capable of bargaining with people's lives to get what he wants, and loyally follows Dr. Eggman's orders when he is able.

He also shown being depressed when he was abandoned by Eggman for months until Amy brought him back to him.

Trivia[]

  • It is currently presumed that the Classic Metal Sonic's world became a separate timeline from the main "Modern" one after the Time Eater created a point of divergent in the time stream during Sonic Generations; in accordance with the many worlds interpretation theory. The "Classic" world now stands as an alternate take on Sonic's history from that point. While after Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episodes in the Modern world's history, the Classic world's history moves onto Sonic Mania instead.
  • In Sonic Generations, Metal Sonic is the only rival that doesn't appear in the Center of Time before Modern and Classic Sonic confront the Time Eater, or appearing at the party within completion of the game.
