Meet Metal Sonic, my creation...and your destruction. You're not the only one who knows how to build robots, y'know.
~ Dr. Eggman introducing Metal Sonic to Lyric.

Metal Sonic is a supporting antagonist in the Sonic Boom series. He is Sonic the Hedgehog's robotic copy created by Dr. Eggman in order to replicate his arch-nemesis.

Biography[]

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric[]

Metal Sonic assisted his master, Eggman, in ambushing Team Sonic near the tomb Lyric was imprisoned in. Assisted by multiple Destruction Troops, he moved in to attack Team Sonic, who escaped him by going inside the tomb. The robot tried to open it the same way Sonic did but was unsuccessful, causing him to hit the tomb's door in frustration.

Metal Sonic isn't seen again until Lyric decides to break his partnership with Eggman, who responds by bringing his creation to destroy the snake, who instead mind-controls the robot into attacking his former master, before sending him to retrieve one of the Chaos Crystals. Metal Sonic ends up causing severe damage to the nearby village before stealing the Crystal from under Sonic's nose. Team Sonic fights the robotic doppelganger and defeats him, causing him to shut down.

Metal Sonic stays deactivated until the end of the game, when Eggman manages to revive him by using Lyric's device. The post-credits scene ends with the robot glaring at the camera.

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal[]

Metal Sonic confronted Team Sonic at the robot factory on Eggman's orders. During a race against them, he flees towards Volcanic Crater, but isn't seen there once the heroes arrive to the said location.

Sonic Boom[]

In the TV series, Metal Sonic makes two appearances. In the episode, "It Wasn't Me, It Was the One-Armed Hedgehog", he stole Eggman's Particle Accelerator, with the doctor framing Sonic the Hedgehog for the crime. While trying to clear his name, Sonic finds the robot's hideout and fights him, ultimately making Metal overload and explode. His remains were brought to Dr. Eggman, thus clearing Sonic's name.

In "Eggman: The Video Game Part 2: The End of the World", Metal Sonic was eventually repaired and somehow brought into Lord Eggman's dimension, upgraded with the motion capture data Eggman received from Shadow's fight with Team Sonic. He uses his new abilities to fight Sonic and Shadow, eventually going back into their home dimension where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles attempt to restrain Metal with Enerbeams. However, Amy is left defenseless, with Metal Sonic attempting to kill her, but Sticks manages to deactivate the robot before he can do so. Later, when the universe was in danger of collapsing due to Eggman being stuck in it with his extradimensional counterpart, Tails repaired Metal Sonic and used his homing beacon to determine Eggman's location, in which he was successful. Metal Sonic then led Sonic to the cave, where Dr. Eggman and Lord Eggman were held prisoners, letting him prevent the apocalypse.

Trivia[]

  • Metal Sonic is stored in a secret location and is only used by Eggman for special occasions. This was the reason Hypnobot wasn't controlling him in the "Robots from the Sky" tetralogy.
  • Metal Sonic's portrayal in the Sonic Boom series is probably the closest to his mainstream counterpart's of all returning characters, remaining Sonic's silent and emotionless robotic copy. Despite this, he expresses some emotions in his earlier appearances, such as hitting the door in anger and posing triumphantly when he believes that he had killed Sonic.
  • According to the Rise of Lyric style guide, Metal Sonic was originally going to appear in the Creeper Gorge level, where he would have activated the Ancients' temple.
  • Orbot, Cubot, Sticks the Badger and Metal Sonic are the only Sonic Boom characters who are completely identical in appearance to their main series counterparts.
