“ | Just a few more moons, then all will know that I am the Empire's— Hm-hm-hm... Forget I said anything. Then again, if you die, it won't matter either way! | „ |
~ Metodey |
Metodey (メトジェイ, Metojei) is a minor antagonist from the game Fire Emblem: Three Houses. A soldier of the Adrestian Empire, he appears as a boss in Chapter 11 of the main game and Chapter 5 of the DLC sub-story, "Cindered Shadows".
He is voiced by Takahiro Miwa in Japanese and Todd Haberkorn in English.
Biography
Little is known about Metodey's background. He is first encountered in the Holy Tomb at Garreg Mach Monastery, leading a group of soldiers alongside the Flame Emperor in an attempt to steal Crest stones and Nabatean remains. He threatens Byleth, Rhea, and the other students present, demanding that they allow the Adrestian Empire to plunder the Holy Tomb. If he survives the battle, his fate is unknown.
In Cindered Shadows, he is hired by an unspecified employer to kidnap Aelfric, a Cardinal of the Church of Seiros, and holds him hostage in exchange for the Chalice of Beginnings. When the Ashen Wolves arrive the plan goes awry, however, as he and his forces are attacked by the students as well as demonic beasts. Metodey flees once defeated, claiming that his employer pays him more than the chalice is worth.
Personality
Metodey enjoys tormenting others. In his battle dialogue he looks forward to killing (and perhaps cooking) his opponent, but this may just be an intimidation tactic, as he is quick to beg for his life when defeated. On one occasion he says that he doesn;t mind being on the receiving end of pain, implying a possible masochistic streak along with his sadism. Other characters know him for his cruelty and unsettling laughter, an NPC in Cindered Shadows comments that he would slaughter an entire town if it benefited him.
Although he is loyal to the Empire he seems to accept freelance work on the side, perhaps due to greed. Despite his allegiance he will fight Edelgard if she is present, though with none of his usual bravado.

Trivia
- Metodey is one of the few named NPC enemy generals who can be spared on all routes, as he retreats from battle in Cindered Shadows and killing him is not part of the victory conditions during chapter 11.
- Metodey's character model is a unique variation of the assassin class.
- As he can be spared and has unused game data, there is speculation that he may have originally been intended for a larger role. If so, this would have most likely been on the Crimson Flower route.
- It is implied that Metodey is literate, as he sends a ransom letter in the DLC. This is notable in a medieval-based setting such as Fire Emblem.
