Rudra, you see… He reached his limits long ago. He reincarnated himself so many times that it wore his soul out. What you see there is Rudra… but it’s also not. He’s long been replaced by Michael, Lord of Justice.
~ Michael revealing his true identity and explains how Manas possessed original Rudra to Rimuru

Lord of Justice Michael or simply known as Michael is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Ivaragé) of the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime franchise.

He was the sentient will that formerly resided within the Ultimate skill Michael, and also Ciel's arch-nemesis.

Appearance[]

Michael, while possessed the body of Rudra Nam Ul Nasca, had an identical appearance, except for his red eyes. He initially wore Rudra's full-body black and gold attire, but after the events of The Abyss Unleashed, he transitioned to a white outfit adorned with red accents.

Personality[]

Michael was deeply self-righteous, firmly believing that his way of thinking represented absolute justice, befitting the virtue he symbolized. He was convinced that his actions were always justified, regardless of their consequences.

Unfamiliar with emotions, Michael relied heavily on logic and precise calculations in his decision-making, a trait that had alienated some of his allies and led to betrayal. When he first experienced the raw intensity of anger, it took him time to recognize and process this unfamiliar emotion. Yet, he valued this newfound experience, resolving to channel such feelings constructively by learning from his setbacks instead of dwelling on them. Michael preferred to correct his own mistakes rather than impose them on others, striving to maintain harmony in pursuit of his long-term goals.

In his final moments, Michael confessed that he had long suspected Veldanava had abandoned him, yet he chose to suppress this doubt and continue with his plans. For years, he believed happiness was beyond his grasp, failing repeatedly to recreate the joy he once felt in Veldanava's presence. However, as his life drew to a close within Rimuru, Michael was able to experience that long-lost happiness one last time. He met his end in peace, with his only regret being the inability to stay by Feldway’s side.

Biography[]

Michael began as a hollow ego residing within a skill, grappling with its purpose after the death of its master, Veldanava. Driven by the desire to revive him, Michael allied with Feldway, who shared the same goal. Finding it inconvenient for the entity to lack a proper name, Feldway named it "Michael." This act caused Michael's ego to leave its skill housing and evolve into a Manas, gaining a far stronger sense of will and purpose.

To advance their plan, Michael spent centuries gradually wresting control of Rudra's body, a process that accelerated as Rudra's soul weakened with each reincarnation. Assuming command over the subjects of the Eastern Empire, Michael brought Rudra's closest vassals, including Velgrynd, under his control using the power of his Ultimate Skill, also named Michael. On Feldway's recommendation, he forged a truce with the Insectoids and their king, Zelanus, despite the longstanding conflict between them and the Phantoms. However, Rudra's immense spiritual strength prevented Michael from acting freely, forcing him to play along with Rudra's game against Guy Crimson until the very end.

During the climax of the war with Rimuru's forces, Rudra's soul was completely banished, severing the last constraints on Michael. Freed from any remaining fetters, Michael chose to retreat with Feldway, relocating their operations to the Heavenly Star Palace.
