Lurchy

Michael "Lurch" Armstrong is a supporting antagonist in the movie Hot Fuzz. He is a hulking figure of a man who is capable of throwing a full grown adult with excessive force.

He was portrayed by Rory McCann who also played Jurgen the Brutal in Jumanji: The Next Level, Sandor Clegane in Game of Thrones, Goran Vedmire in The Legend of Vox Machina, And The Buyer in Knuckles

Background[]

He is a very unintelligent henchman of Simon Skinner, who works as manager at the local Somerfield supermarket, which employs Michael as a trolley boy. According to Danny Butterman, Michael's mother and sister are the same person, implying that he is inbred. Danny also mentions that he has the mind of a child with is revealed to be true as he is seen distracted by a toy monkey. Michael can only say two words - "yarp" (yes) and "narp" (no). He is known to have carried out the murder of Leslie Tiller by stabbing her in the neck with her own trimming shears, and later attempted to ambush Nicholas Angel in his hotel room.

During the Sandford Police Service's raid on Somerfield, he fought in hand-to-hand combat with Nicholas Angel and eventually ended up shoved in a freezer until his later arrest. He is a member of the Neighbourhood Watch Alliance, though it is unlikely that he actually has any care for Sandford and just acts as a muscle man, though it is made clear that he enjoys hurting people when he responds affirmatively when Nicholas asks if he really wants to fight him. He was shown crying after his arrest, meaning he may have had at least some remorse or was afraid of criminal punishment.

Personality[]

Lurch is an extremely violent person who loves hurting if they provoke him. He is also extremely dimwitted, as seen when Sergeant Angel throws a toy monkey at him, he gets distracted and admires the doll like a child, before being knocked by Angel with a plant pot.

Trivia[]

  • The Armstrong part of his name is probably a reference to his physical strength.
  • Danny mentions that his mother is also his sister, which possibly explains his lack of intelligence.
  • Although Lurch can only respond to/with 'yarp' and 'narp' (yes and no) he is only heard saying 'yarp'. 'Narp' is said by Nicholas impersonating Lurch after almost being killed.
