Michael Andrew Gove (born Graeme Andrew Logan) is a supporting antagonist in the reboot of the ITV series Spitting Image.
He served as Minister for the Cabinet Office and Minister and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster under Prime Minister Boris Johnson throughout his incumbency. Gove takes on a meek, somewhat voice of reason in the show, but is shown to be a career politician resolute on selling the National Health Service and unseating Johnson to become Prime Minister.
He was voiced by Lewis McLeod, who also voiced Coroni in the same series, as well as The Entity and the Jester in the third instalment of the Mr. Hopp's Playground franchise, Protoboy, General Yakitori, Bjorn Bjornson, Bjornbot, Truckenstein, and Felonious Hexx, among other villains in Robotboy, IG-88 and Sebulba in Star Wars, Lucy Simian in Season 1 of The Amazing World of Gumball, Bluebeard in Sandra: The FairyTale Detective, and Zaid in Horizon: Zero Dawn.
Physical appearance[]
Gove's puppet is given exaggeratedly inflated cheeks and a small, pursed mouth. He is pale in complexion and has grey hair. Due to the scandal of Gove's cocaine use, he is sometimes shown dressed in clubwear and holding glowsticks.
Personality[]
Gove is portrayed as a bland, dull man who gets sexual gratification from making fiscal calculations on how to privatise the NHS. He is shown to also be vindictive and intelligent, as well as a hopeless romantic. Out of the cabinet, Gove seems to be the most level-headed, but at heart is just another career politician seeking to elevate his own career.
After the scandal that Gove had been caught using cocaine, he is portrayed as a "club kid" with rampant energy. He also is depicted by his evasive style in answering questions.
Biography[]
Background[]
Gove was the MP for Surrey Heath. Prior to this, Gove was adopted in Scotland. His birth name is Graeme Andrew Logan. Gove served in numerous government positions before Johnson's election. After this, Gove was first appointed Minister for the Cabinet Office, before later being given the role of the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster as well.
Spitting Image[]
After a disagreement with his wife, Gove calls an ambulance after he is struck with an iron. When asked of his details and location, Gove refuses to give an answer, and instead uses the opportunity to highlight Conservative "successes" as usually seen during Parliamentary questioning and press interviews.
Gove visits Priti Patel's sadomasochist dungeon, where Gove asks her to list off unpopular conservative opinions that only she can get away with due to her intersectionality. Patel questions if Gove is masturbating, which Gove reveals he is in fact making calculations to divide the NHS into sellable factions to privatise it in segments. Gove becomes overwhelmed by Patel's viewpoints and begs her to stop. She then asks him to satisfy her by reading off fiscal projections, her kink being dull men.
Gove is seen in a cabinet meeting with Johnson, who asks who should engage in further negotiations with the EU to facilitate Brexit. After Priti Patel refuses due to the repellent garlic, Gove is nominated. Gove fantasises of going to Paris to find himself and perhaps love. He ends up meeting French head of state Emmanuel Macron - the pair establish a relationship and their countries' shared interests. Macron and Gove kiss. This is interrupted by a fish that tells Gove it was caught by a French fishery in English waters, violating the UK's international fishing laws. Gove realises he cannot sustain his relationship with Macron and leaves Paris.
Gove consistently shows up to various settings such as a family firework night, a peaceful fishing trip and a university accommodation in search of drugs to feed his insatiable addiction. He is frequently told to leave, but becomes adamant on obtaining them, usually resulting in Gove being physically assaulted.
At a curry house with Dominic Cummings, Gove shares his plans to unseat Johnson and become Prime Minister, asking for Cummings' support. Cummings suggests that he is interested, and Gove cleverly tricks Cummings into revealing he is an alien. Gove recognises his and Cummings' similarity of an absence of empathy to win over Cummings. Gove then poisons Cummings with turmeric which is toxic to Cummings' species, which Gove laughs at, revealing there is only room for one challenge.
Gove is then present at Johnson's séance, where he tries to reanimate the spirit of Winston Churchill, but is instead met by Margaret Thatcher. Gove asks Thatcher for advice on negotiating with the North of England, which Thatcher abhors the idea of and encourages them to abolish the North. Gove then participates in the sacrifice of Matt Hancock to defeat Thatcher who is threatening to stay permanently in the world of the living. They do so by tearing out his heart.
