Michael Heimeroth, also known as Ofnir 1, is a major antagonist in the Ace Combat franchise, being one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Major Hamilton) of Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, and a minor antagonist in Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. He is a Belkan fighter pilot and one of the country's most infamous aces.
He later joined the Gray Men in an attempt to take revenge on Osea and Yuktobania and reunite North Belka and South Belka, as well as restoring the shattered pride of his country after their humiliating defeat to the Allied Forces in the Belkan War.
Biography[]
Birth and early life[]
Heimeroth was born in the country of Belka, by then known as the Belkan Federation, in 1972. When he was young, he joined the Belkan Air Force and graduated in the Kellerman Institute. He was later assigned to the 6th Air Division's 5th Tactical Fighter Squadron.
The Belkan War[]
Heimeroth fought in the Belkan War in 1995, demonstrating remarkable flying abilities and becoming an ace after shooting down 25 aircraft from the Allied Forces, even though he was still a rookie.
During Operation Battle-Axe, he fought with his squadmates against the Allied Forces to defend Area B73 (also known as the Round Table). He was shot down by Cipher during the furball, but managed to bail out safely. He was later promoted to Captain and became the new flight leader of the newly renamed Ofnir Squadron, named after his personal callsign.
The Circum-Pacific War[]
After joining the Gray Men, Heimeroth was transferred into the Yuktobanian Air Force alongside his squadron members, in an international cooperative gesture between the Allied Forces and their (former) enemy, Belka. Their actions, similarly to their Osean counterparts Grabacr Squadron, remained largely unknown to the Yuktobanian military, something that permitted them to operate with the Gray Men. Details about Heimeroth's squadron's activities during the Circum-Pacific War remain mostly unknown.
In the later stages of the war, Heimeroth was told by Grabacr that Wardog Squadron was successfully shot down and killed, but Heimeroth suspected otherwise due to the rescue of President Harling and the incident in Mount Schwirm, where a jet-black fighter was spotted. His suspicions were later confirmed when he was deployed in Operation Riverbed, where he and his men engaged the Razgriz Squadron. Heimeroth was deployed in order to help the Yuktobanian forces recover the nuclear warhead (actually intended for the Gray Men) from the Yuktobanian rebels. He was shot down by the Razgriz Squadron alongside the rest of his unit. However, they managed to safely bail out and shared their story with Gray Men operative Adler.
Heimeroth was seen for the last time in Operation Arcadia, where he, alongside Ashley Bernitz and the Grabacr and Ofnir Squadrons, engaged the Razgriz Squadron one last time, in order to ensure that the SOLG (Strategic Orbital Linear Gun) carrying the nuclear warhead crashed into the Osean capital of Oured. All of them were shot down by the Razgriz Squadron, despite outnumbering them two to one, and were not able to bail out safely. As a result, Heimeroth, his men, and the Grabacr Squadron were killed in action.
Trivia[]
- His callsign and squadron name, Ofnir, is derived from a creature from Norse mythology called Ófnir.
